good mules are hard to find in my part of the country and are usally priced outa site ive almost quit due to my health but i still try to keep a pair of pullimg horses around or pulling ponies i have had a few mules over the yrs but only 1 good 1 you could squreill hunt and coon hunt off her she was about 55 in mule she just got old and slow sent her to the sale guy that got her still uses her some he talks to my uncle all the time but hes like me gettin old and wore out lol

Thats what i have heard good ones are hard to find. Aubrey Buttler got me started and now we get together for a hunt with Terry Goza from Iowa. We hunt all night in the bluffs along the mississippi river and have a lot of fun. If we didn't have the mules it would be a short hunt because of the rough terrain.

What's the best way to get a mule to the point where they aren't scared of dead coon? The last mule I had freaked when I tied a skined coon on the saddle horn, she dumped me in a fence row, took off at full speed, when found her she had destroyed the saddle and was biting the coon hide, her eyes were big as base balls, every vain in her head was visible she thought she was fighting for her life.

In the past, I have taken a coon hide and hung it by the stall or where I feed them and let them get used to it on there own. I also tie em up to brush them out and rub the hide on them and let them smell it. then hand the hide on saddle and walk them around. do everything in gradual steps. hope it helps

Mules

I been seriously thinkin bout gettin one. I live in Highland County,Va. I got the George Washington National Forest out my back door & the Highland Game Preserve out the front. I coon hunt & I also trap other fur bearers other than coon. It sure would make life a whole lot easier. Rob Gregory

A few new pics....

This is a 3 1/2 year old molly my husband has been working on this season. It is her first season coon hunting, and she's doing great. She is a very good jumper. She is pretty loaded down here......he always puts the hides in the saddle bags so they won't pick up burrs going through the woods......but when the saddle bags get full, they go on the saddle horn.

Coon hunting party.

A big Wisconsin coon the dogs caught on the ground

It's hard enough to find a good dog...now I gotta look for another animal!!!!!! Seriously, no, I never did hunt off a mule and if they are as complicated as a horse to ride I never will. My wife has a horse and if she would have taken as many flying lessons as she has horse lessons she'd be working for Southwest Airlines flying a 737 about last year!!!!!!

My friend has a 52" Molly with one bad eye. Moves out good and covers the ground smooth. 500$ if he still has her Benton ky.
