Tatooing is neither expensive or difficult, a designated person could do the tatooing at Ukc hunts and charge a minimal fee to cover their time and cost of ink. Only dogs recieving titles or earnings would require their ears lifted to confirm their tat. matches # on entry. This exact system is used on all race horses to avoid crooks running a ringer,it takes a couple minutes to apply and all winners merely have their lip lifted to see that they are the correct horse.???

I went to the AKC National pup derby 8 or 9 years ago and I drew a dog that had battle scars as old as the pup I brought! Lol

I'd be willing to pay more for the additional assurance.

I aint worried about being beat in the woods.Just like to know for Breeding purposes, that a dog or line of dogs, ability and reproducing stats are correct. Example: Hunt with a dog,looks real good,choose to use him on a female,and aint even right dog or line of dogs. Hurts the breeding prgm and breed...jmo

DNA is great for determining parentage but not age.Most people can tell if a hound is young or not by the way he/she acts. There are people that hunt dogs with false papers/date of births, this has been going on for as long as I can remember and will continue to. There are things we as hunters can do to mitigate this. One of the things is to get yourself a good dog and just go and beat them if you can draw them. Eventually, if you go to enough hunts , you will draw them. I heard a thirteen month old black dog won Redbone days.....I have yet to see a bunch of congrats on this????????I for one, am happy that someone had a nice enough young dog,enough coons and a good man on the dog to win it.If we as a collaborative whole spent more time honing our hounds,breeding and general skills there would be less posts of this nature and better fellowship in the breeds and sport.

Sonny it sounds good at the the top but it would be a hassle. It is only random testing. Do you know how many employees use drugs in a large corporation that has random testing or even small companies. Isn't it a little sad that the ones you are positive would pass get there name drawn all the time though the few that you have heard use never have there name drawn in 10 yrs.
Now the way I see it is that where there is smoke their is fire. The best way to get rid of the smoke and fire is don't supply fuel for the fire. This day and age with all the technology text mess. and internet if someone is switching dogs and you know it let everyone know about it. Don't participate in there breeding program and you will stop the dog switching a lot faster then dna can.
I prefer to deal with houndsmen where a hand shake and the mans word are worth more then a contract.

Tattooing & dna

Fellows tattooing is very low cost.Every pup in my kennel gets tatooed at 5 weeks old.Takes a matter of minutes.I tattoo both ears.Like someone said,"Alot of black dogs look alike. This will take care of this problem".Also every Black dog in my kennel over 1 year old is dna-p or dna -vip.Such a small cost to know that what I am hunting and breeding is the bloodline my pedigrees say they are!!!!!!!!!! I am all for both!!!!!!
