Smokey 7

I hunted with smokey 7 a couple cast and he sure impressed me. Best non walker dog iv been with lol! Smokey will get deep or tree em close. Iv seen him do both. He is independent, seen him split more than tree with dogs. We were in separate cast one night and un knowingly turned loose on the same farm. 8 dogs all loose on one farm. Smokey got treed by hisself with a coon in less than 10 minutes before we realized what had happened. They recast him in on other dogs running. Anyways bout 5 minutes later we had a race going with 7 walker dogs running every where. Both cast had to call time to round up the dogs. Smokey ended up treed where my cast turned loose from with another coon by himself again. There were some nice dogs in both cast that night, 4 grnt's, and a couple Pkc champions. Smokey was the only dog to get under a coon, not once but twice. He had dogs treed around him and dogs running all around him, but it didnt faze him at all.

Drew him out another night. It was a cold February night with ice on the ground. We had a snow that mourning, it had melted and froze back that night. It was so miserable we all agreed to hunt 1 hour. We cut three dogs loose and didnt hear anything for 40 mins or so. Smokey opened on a ridge, worked an old bad track down the mountain and up the other side and loaded up with bout 5 mins to go and had it. Only dog in cast to get treed. This is one nice black dawg. He has a lot going for him. He got a big loud bawl track mouth and a hard chop mouth tree dog, that is accurate and does his own thing. I been thinking really hard about crossing my walker female to smokey.

Not seen anything that really impressed me in a while.

Three young one's I would like to see go, in no particular order.

Never seen any of "the big dogs" run. Would like to see the hammer dog or batman though.

Anyone know of a dog (good number years ago) named Michigan Black Bear? Drew him at a hunt one night and was thoroughly impressed with his ability to run a cold track, made it look easy and that no other dog could even smell.

I've hunted with a female out of him, that was like you described him. She could really put a coon on the end of those cold tracks!
