In doing research on coons I have come across a couple of research papers on coons, coon habitat, and coon populations.

They listed 4 factors den trees, water source near dens, edge habitat, and crops. Another factor that helps coons bounce back that I don't think gets enough credit is the mast crops such as acorns and nuts.

i remember growing up and living in central NC that we had fairly good coon population. But down here in the southwest corner of Georgia, coon are thin. The king pine had ruined lots of land and plantations want coon gone for the sake of quail. I can drive 1hr noth or 40 min east and find good coon numbers. Lots of the chemicals strayed on crops kill coon as well.
