The UMWA Has Ratified It's Contract With PATRIOT COAL. 13 UNIONS Voted And It Passed By 85%. It's Good To See That Cooler Heads Prevailed, And Workers, Retirees, And Widows Will Keep Their Benefits. GOOD MOVE!!!!!!

He fired the air traffic controllers. They posed a risk to the public by refusing to do their jobs and put our country at a standstill.

Seriously, I understand bargaining in good faith...and Unions and Owners should do this, however, when a Union decides it needs to shut down America to get a pay raise or get a guarantee for insurance, it is time for someone to look for another job...talk about selfish....

I work for the Post Office, I know full well what my brothers and sisters did in the early 70's to get a union started and got us a living wage. I am thankful for it. However, that being said, they put America at risk...People did not receive retirement checks when Postal Workers walked off the job, I am certain bills were not paid because of a delay in the mail. Probably tons of other things that I am not thinking of at the moment....they had to bring in the National Guard to sort and deliver mail. Sadly they could not do it.

I believe it was because of this fact that Ronald Reagan told the air traffic controllers to come back to work or look for another means to support your family.

Anytime you think it is okay to shut down America for the sake of a few people (look at the big picture, small fish in a big ocean) you have failed, and we ought all look in the mirror at that point cause the problem will be staring back at us.

mr beyer

i see your point about shutting down the country but i don't agree i think thats exactly what should have been done thats the trouble with the gov they get involed in something they have no bussiness in and its only getting worse if we don't wake up the gov is going to be in control of all our lives jmo not trying to start a fued

So that makes it okay to shut down the entire country? That is my point, it does not....shutting down the food supply to stores, making it so that the country is shut down because fuel cannot be bought.....as a bargaining tool? And then we as consumers end up getting screwed twice....we get shut down, and then the prices go up because demand has been heightened.

Also, I do not look at is as a fued, just a discussion of opposing ideas.

Great post but shouldn't owners pay a livable wages from the start along with insurance, problem solved.Great example of gov.stepping in and tell a private business what it's gonna do for america's sake.

Air traffic controllers are employed by the government...not a private business.
