went to Benton gun store the other day. $15 for a 50 round box, and that was the very cheapest they had.
[T]he legislation would prevent all government agencies except for the Defense Department from purchasing and storing what lawmakers say is an excess amount of ammunition.
The bill’s reach would include DHS and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), two agencies that have found themselves at the center of the ammo controversy.
“As the public learned in a House committee hearing this week, the Department of Homeland Security has two years worth of ammo on hand and allots nearly 1,000 more rounds of ammunition for DHS officers than is used on average by our Army officers,” Inhofe said. “The AMMO Act of 2013 will enforce transparency and accountability of federal agencies’ ammunition supply while also protecting law-abiding citizens access to these resources.”
Additionally, the AMMO Act would encourage the Government Accountability Office to audit federal agencies’ ammo purchases.
“The Comptroller General of the United States shall submit to Congress a report regarding the purchasing of ammunition by agencies, which shall include an assessment of the effect of the purchasing of ammunition by agencies on the supply of ammunition available to the public,”
There have been more concerns over reports of DHS’s plan to purchase another 750 million rounds of ammunition over the next five years, despite having a two-year stockpile saved up. Meanwhile, gun shops across the country are reporting ammunition shortages.
Maybe this is one a reason that Civilians can't find Ammo.

IM NOT GOING TO PANIC UNTIL AROUND AUGUST AND SURELY BY THEN THERE SHOULD BE 22'S IN STOCK.I WOULD JUST HATE TO THINK THAT THE AMMO COMPANY'S ARE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THIS SITUATION.

Law enforcement agencies have been rapidly increasing their ammunition consumption because of how they are rearming, causing a permanent increase in demand. Just as ammunition manufacturers began to cope with that increase, a second run, based upon a downward-turning economy and rising fears of laws targeting gun and ammunition, dramatically expanded demand yet again.
Shortages of ammunition and firearms can be expected to continue for as long as it appears our overreaching federal government is a threat to our individual liberties, our economy continues to falter, and our police agencies keep militarizing.
It’s going to be a long ride.
Stock up while you can.
These two things, plus the government agencies purchasing excessive amounts and THERE YOU GO.

Pretty hard to believe that Govt. and law enforcment demand would have an effect on the availability of.22 rimfire ammo.
Why would manufacturers let the 22 equipment sit idle other than to create a false shortage to increase price. Around here 22s have increased in price about 300% in the last 6 months, sure seems that kind of profit margin would have those machines running 24/7.

rimfire ammo
I've heard that one of the reasons rimfire ammo in general is lacking is because the big producers (cci, federal, winchester, remington, etc) make a higher $ margin producing centerfire 9mm, 40, 45, etc. It might be a bunch of hooey but, it could be part of the prob.

Use 21/2 inch. 000 buckshot. Could use 3 inch if you need more fire power.

22 shortage
Not over in south arkansas. Our Walmart hasn't got 22 shells in 6 months. Our local sporting good stores are getting a few 50 round boxes every few weeks. If anyone knows where to get them let us know.
Was just at our Walmart no .22 shells.
A few other calibers.
