-- Rule ? How far is too far? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=928312625)
tree
Yea if it comes off a hundreds yards you don't know what tree it was on to start with.
i guess too far
I don't know.the rule doesn't state a distance but I have trained my dog to back off the wood in tree overcrowding situations.some people don't like it but I hardly never get a dog tore up from them light broke alligators that some folks like to hunt.I went on a cast that a guy minuses my dog on a tree for being back too far as he says and it was still under the canopy.he just wasn't under the wood.later in the cast we seen his dog try to eat another off the tree.so which do u train for.teach him to back up a little so there is no conflict or teach him to tear the aggressive dogs ears off.personally I just assume they back off a little.jmo

Al, UKC explained in the Advisor that they never want that distance to be specific and they especially don't want to ever use a number because as soon as you state any kind of specific distance, you then require the judge to start carrying a tape measure or stepping off distance and they do not want that to ever happen.
Much of judging a cast is about the judge being honest, having integrity and using good judgement. Do all of them? NO! But we have a cast questioning system that should keep things straight and honest.
Look fellas, if a judge makes a call that is purely designed to help him win the cast, there are 3 others guys standing there(or 2 on a 3 dog cast) that can absolutely overrule and correct that judge. If those 3 guys stand there with their hands in their pockets and do nothing, they get the exactly the kind of cast they deserve.
