I do. I know several who collected it who never paid in to ss or even income taxes there intire life. the biggest influence in my life of coonhunting, collected it. so did his son (just died several months ago) neither had a job there entire life, that withheld taxes anyway. they lived on a small family farm (40 acres) and didnt have the modern comforts.......but both collected ssi till they died. the old man starting when he was about 60, his son the same time but was about 40. He was astounded to find out there was money to be had for 'free" when he hadnt worked a conventional job EVER.

the state got the farm when the son died though.

If you worked until you were 60 then these comments really are not related to you because you are about ready to retire any way.
The problem with the system is you need to be more patient than sick or injured. Yes they try to starve you out before you get it, yes you have to provide documentation, yes it is a long process, but all one has to do that is not sick or injured is be patient, chances are good that the tax payers will keep you up.

Truly......

I think you got your answer on why your demographic is like it is. I was going to point that out earlier and did not have a chance before the other guy did.Nobody will ever get rich off disability.
For a liberal who tries to be intelligent, you sure know how to overlook the obvious answers.

i agree with you somewhat but you can get mess up at a young age depending what type of work you do i seen a young man probly in his 30s lift the hood on his truck when he pulled it up the cable broke hood came forward he try holding it from coming all the way to the ground messed up his saotic nerve he was on workmans comp for ever had to walk on cruthes for almost a yr they took him off but him on disabilty so your never to young to get hurt or sick and be forced to go on disabilty but i do agree there is alot on it just to lazy to work and beat the system but sounds like mr welch that posted on here derserves his jmo

truly i live in ky but right on the wva and kentucky border worked for 31 years on the railroad but had to retire at 51 years old i am now 57 . i would like to see some of our congressman and sentors come to this regin and work in 30 inch coal just for aweek and see if they think they could do this job for until they were 60 years old. i dont think so i don;t belive the right wingers could either. now let me say i did not vote for obama but i did not vote for romney and ryan niether, i dont think the average working american has either party looking out for them.

its hard for us older gen to try and explain to the younger gen that they are invinceable that it wont ever happen to them but you never know what can happen at any given time i will never get on here and judge people that are getting disabilty unless i actuly see them doing something on a daily basis that shows they can work a 8 hr day on a daily basis

I GOT INVOLVED WITH UNION ACTIVITIES AT WORK AT A YOUNG AGE. AN OLD TIMER TOLD ME, GET ALL YOU CAN WHILE YOUR YOUNG, YOU MIGHT BE THE ONE THAT NEEDS HELP LATER IN LIFE. WELL TO CUT TO THE CHASE, EVERY CONTRACT WE'D UP THE LIFE INSURANCE, WE STARTED A 401K PLAN, WE GOT THE COMPANY TO GIVE US STOCK IN THE COMPANY, WIDOWS PENSION, GET COLA FOR RETIREES PENSIONS, GOT T&P PAYOUT ON OUR LIFE INSURANCE, RAISED WORKERS PENSIONS, RAISED A&S PAYMENTS TO YOU IF OFF SICK OR INJURED, IF NOT WORKERS COMP, RAISED WORKERS COMP TO 70% OF WEEKLY WAGES TO MATCH A&S. OUR COMPANY WERE MAKING RECORD PROFITS SO IT WAS NO PROBLEM GETTING INCREASES ON CONTRACTS, WE JUST TOOK CARE OF PEOPLE. IF YOU RETIRED REGULAR, YOU GOT A HEFTY AMOUNT MONTHLY. IF YOU HAD TO RETIRE BEFORE RETIREMENT AGE, YOU COULD ELECT TO TAKE YOUR $60,000 LIFE INSURANCE IN MONTHLY INSTALLMENTS TO HELP WITH EXPENSES BY NOT BEING ABLE TO WORK. I'M PROUD OF HOW WE TOOK CARE OF OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS. IT'S EXTREMELY HARD TO MAKE IT THESE DAYS, BUT WE TRIED TO LESSEN THE BURDEN ON THEM. I'M NOT BRAGGING, JUST TRYING TO SHOW PEOPLE THAT YOU HAVE TO MAKE HAY WHEN THE SUN SHINES! WHEREVER YOU WORK, PUT SOME MONEY IN THE BANK, YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU'LL NEED IT!!!

You got it right all politians are gonna ruin this country but hey this did just start yesterday. I fear that sitting back on our hands year ago is causing us to pay today. They never cared about the average man just pacified us long enough to get some polices passed. We as citizens never paid the atttention to this because of the wording or fed into some form of fantasy. We fight and they laugh at us jokes!

Not only would it be nice to see the politicians put in a day of hard labor, I would like to see some of these guys that think anyone on disability is a "cheat" put in a hard week.
I had the good fortune of being able to make a switch to doing work that is not going to ruin my body as an adult. But growing up on a dairy farm I got to see the other side. In the 70's and 80's when I was on the dairy, almost everyone milked in a flat barn. All the farmers had wrecked their knees. And the ones who didn't wreck their knees had wrecked their backs. And several had had equipment injuries- grinding shrapnel in the eyes, privates caught in tractor PTO, fingers cut off, etc. I drove my mom to the hospital when she cut the end 1/4 inch off her fingers in a feed conveyor.
I have no doubt that railroad work, timber work, coal mining is dangerous work, and that those who choose to do it benefit all the rest of us who get their products for good prices. Telling folks who do hard dangerous work that we might move their retirement back even one year is horrible. Easy to tell a banker that he has to work til he is 70, but not someone who does hard labor.
Make the rich pay their fair share and LOWER THE RETIREMENT AGE!

No, do raise taxes on a single soul until congress can get their chit together and.balance their own pocket book. Red and blue. Why should wealthy suffer when the gov won't do their part?
Also Track your right let me add sitting on our hands today sure isn't helping matters.
I feel for you KH1955, probably not to far behind you.

The US is still the hardest working country labor wise in the world. We put in longer days, take less breaks, less vacation time. We max all potential opportunity to be as effective as possible in all labor areas. Mfg, construction (except our politicians) you name it. Working global I see it.

Don't raise taxes and leave the retirement age alone ya greedy pricks. Get your own finances on the right track. Man I get worked up thinking about how corrupt our system is on all parties. especially Obama and his lefties. He sold his election based on getting our USA on the right track and in turn is doing the opposite.
If everyone can't see this then so be it. But my eyes are wide open.

I'VE GOT TWO SON-IN-LAWS IN THE TIMBER INDUSTRY. RUN THEIR OWN BUSINESSES. BOTH ARE TRYING TO WORK IN W.V. IN THE WINTER IT IS TAXING AT BEST. THEY'RE OUT IN THE COLD FOR TEN TO TWELVE HOURS, THEN IN THE SHOP FOR HOWEVER LONG IT TAKES TO FIX THE EQUIPMENT FOR TOMORROW. PLUS PAYING ASTRONOMICAL WORKERS COMP PREMIUMS. PEOPLE ARE DEPENDING ON THEM FOR A PAYDAY. IT'S TOUGH!! ON ANOTHER NOTE. I WORKED HARD AS A YOUTH. MY FIRST PAYING JOB WAS PUTTING LOOSE HAY IN A HAY MOUW. I WAS NEVER HAPPIER TO SEE A JOB END. FIGHTING WASPS, HEAT, HAY, SWEAT. THEN I WENT TO CONSTRUCTION. THEN I DROVE OVER THE ROAD. BEING GONE FROM FAMILY WAS THE WORST. DID A TOUR IN VIET NAM W/ 199TH LIGHT INFANTRY BRIGADE. THEN GOT A BIG MONEY JOB IN A CHEMICAL PLANT. IT'S A SHAME I DIDN'T REALIZE THEY WERE SYSTEMATICALLY KILLING ME IN EXCHANGE FOR HIGH WAGES. NOW ALL I CAN DO IS SIT IN THE HOUSE. BUT LIFE GOES ON, THERE'S PEOPLE IN WORSE SHAPE THAN I AM. JUST THANKFUL FOR GOD FAMILY AND FRIENDS!!!!

I do not think anyone on the mailbox check is a cheat, I think 9 out of 10 on the mailbox check is a cheat!
I have been on the same job for 24 years. I could probably work you under the table! You must be on the mailbox check too!
The reason I have the opinions that I do is because I see it, first hand all around me. There is no doubt that it is a representative example of the nation as a whole. That stuff is heredity too.
Ever see the wild and wonderful Whites from West Virginia? Seen that right here too. Watch mom and dad stiff the system and kids learn it too!

I used that documentary not to be disparaging to West Virginians but to illustrate an example of how living off the government tit is more often not, hereditary in the idea that it is a learned behavior!

So you think the morality of urban folks is that much higher than the folks of appalachia, arkansas, and the other areas that have particularly high rates? If you look across this map, almost universally, rates are low in urban cores and high in the most remote regions where mining and timbering are the norm. Living in a huge pocket of low DI rates I could just agree with you and take it as a compliment, but I think that is a huge slap in the face to those who live where rates are high.
