I'm not talking about treeing one out of hearing. I'm talking about striking one out of hearing or carrying the strike on. Okay all dogs are struck and two are treed. Tree is scored, the other two are out of hearing the Garmin is on. Other guy doesn't have a Garmin. Time is running and guy with Garmin powered on sneaks a peek and miraculously hears his dog. Garmin shows dog to be southwest 1.5. He knows what direction to walk in and how far. He gets cast within hearing in less than 8 minutes and dodges a minus.

I think before everyone raises their blood pressure up they ought to have a little more faith in Allen and Todd. UKC is not going to threaten the integrity of their hunts for the sake of a vendor's support or partnership. I do know I appreciate the fact that UKC is willing to look at the issue and explore possibilities. I mean it is o.k. for me to be stuck in the 20th century, but I really don't expect businesses to be stuck with me.
I have not decided which side I agree with yet, but I am leaning towards status quo.

I would like to see UKC. continue to atleast explore the effects of Garmins ON during hunt time. Personally i dont forsee the big problems that some do but maybe im wrong. Why not allow clubs to hold 1 GPS. hunt this year and evaluate the results based on attendence and the opinions of the guys that actually spend their money at the hunts.
Nothing ventured,nothing gained. Sound fair?

I think Larry is right. We should put more faith in the UKC staff. I think they're a good bunch of people with everybody's interest in mind. I personally am in favor of the garmin but so so on the e-collars. I myself don't care what others use as long as everythings done fair and honest.
I think we are all in agreement on one thing though. Both sides of the debate seem to be wanting to eliminate the cheaters but have Different views on how it should be done. One side claims allowing it's use will help stop cheating the other side claims by allowing it's use the cheaters will cheat even more. I like the idea of test hunts allowing it, but they should be posted so everybody knows in advance etc. I also like the idea somebody had on letting the clubs decided. That seems like a fair thing for both those for against garmins / technology. Maybe we all should hold club hunts using them and see what the good and bad points are. IDK what I do know is this. As long as we all argue and let our tempers flare we're not going to get any where. It just doesnt look look good to new comers or the public. I know I personally struggle to make myself participate in competition hunts due tempers, cheaters etc. The day of a competition I always ask myself if I want to go and risk putting up with aggravation or simply go pleasure hunting. If we all can stay calm and listen to each other I think this could be settled with both sides being statisfied.
I feel for the UKC staff!
it will help for the dogs that get out of pocket. TREE MY DOG NW 1.05

I made this post for UKC to read and see what other people that attend the bigger hunts feel about it. I wouldn't want to be in there she's either. Maybe this is all in vain, but I hope not. I would like to think that the hunters will have a voice in this. If I am a minority and the hunters as a whole Are for it than so be it. Perhaps for all the major hunts till AO when you confirm your entry you get a ballet to vote on it. Just so UKC could get an ideal of how the people it will effect most feel about it. But I think you should only get to vote if you hunt in the nite hunts. This would just be a way for UKC to get feedback.
with or without garmins
good hounds will b good hounds. potlickers will b potlickers. honest folks will b honest. cheaters will b cheaters. jmo but i enjoy my garmin and my e-collar every nite. i also perfer if i hunt with others if they have them as well.

It wasen't because of you Andy, It will pick back up on Mon, when guys that should be working get back on line LOL. How was hunt season for you? It was on and off for us started and ended real good for us. Just alot of dens in between. I wasen't training a pup this yr so we didn't kill too many. Left most of them to score on this summer!!!
I guess the judge would have to check the collars for the prongs to be removed if the alpha was carried on the hunts or they would have to let any other shocking collar brand be carried also instead of left in the truck.Remove the prongs and lets go hunting . That way your buddy in the truck can't shock your dog while they are hunting also.

I'm an old school hunter who after taking 25 years off have had my interactions with the "new" school hunters and their Garmins. As for the problems with the Alphas and their shocker, I have no idea how to solve that problem but as for the part that scares the old time dog men....the "treed" icon that comes up on the screen.... That's simple, that is a doodad that Garmin put on there for kiddies. Do away with the treed icon and the other messages on what the dog is doing.
Keep the calling of the dog as the handlers sole responsibility and not have any extra electronic aids on that end and I see no problem.
Heck Garmin could even increase their sales to competition hunters by having a model aimed @ the competitive crowd with a key that would turn off the non competition legal parts with a key or something that could be held by the judge till the hunt was over.

I know my garmin 320 has a setting so you can not show the treed icon.
Around this area at least, comp hunts in general arent afforded alot of "integrity", and it realy doesnt matter what kc its under :/
If garmen is going to sponser at least some of the bigger ukc hunts, its going to want max exposure to its products. if ukc isnt on board with that........well there are lots of other registrys that will.
it comes down to the plain fact the little yellow slip doesnt cut it with todays comp hunter (who have been exposed to HUGE $$$ hunts and even payouts for little chickenyard hunts)...either ukc is gonna have to buckle under to the demands of its sponser, whoever that will be, or hand out $$$ its self. the preformance program was a good try........but it has limited reach. money is going to have to come from sponsors, or a % of entry fees/reg fees.
that isnt going to happen, because a registry thats never gave a dime back isnt going to start now.
I wonder if its time to go back to the old days, when ukc's only purpose was to record pedigrees.........and a coonhunters assoc took care of the rules and hunts
the old timers here will remember when UKC didnt have a thing to do with rules or hunts, that was done by the ACHA
Yes, and now in ACHA you can hunt under your old timer's rules also. Like waiting for more people to show up after the entry deadline so you can put more money in your club treasure . Galt, Mo. Coonhunter's Club is known for this.Waiting an hour for more people to show up after deadline, before drawing out. Yea good thing UKC did take over their rules . lol

This is why I stay as far away from a UKC hunt as possible. If y'all focused on Coondogs as much as you do Garmins, feeder buckets, mean dogs, and slick handlers, the caliber of dogs you draw at your local dust collector hunt would take a dramatic rise. Let em use Garmins, who cares... Go ahead and tree your dog when the Garmin says he/she is treed and see who ends up in the truck first. It might actually help have more productive hunts by being able to keep track of the dogs better so you don't spend half the cast walking in circles trying to pinpoint them. The majority of people that object probably don't like what the Garmin shows them through the week...
Bottom line is.. A Coondog is gonna prevail whether a Garmin is turned on or not.
