We saw her laying on pine straw at the edge of the field. I went back to the house to get the gun and daddy said it started to crawl off so he got the stick. It had 13 rattles and had more but was broke off. It was 5 ft long but looks bigger from that angle. It was 80 here yesterday and has been in the 70s for about a week so the big snakes are coming out to eat all these dang rabbits.

Don't want to sound critical about anything, and I know there are some huge rattlers around the South, BUT you noted that the snake was 5 foot long.....Is your dad 3'2" tall? The snake looks like it is more than one and half times as tall as your dad. Great job of killing the snake if it is as shown!

WOW.......really? The animal always appears a little bigger than it is if it's closer to the camera that the person holding or kneeling behind it is.
