I have owned several over the years that some would call a gascon-type hound but to me they are just an old-fashion bluetick. I have enjoyed some good ones and they have been extremely intelligent and loyal. They tend to be cold-nosed check-in type hunters that try to please me at all times. They suit me perfectly. My most recent female may be my best, she is 92 lbs and has no champion or night champion hounds in five generations behind her but she shows in the woods and on the bench that some responsible breeding has been done over the years.

She sure is a pretty hound
Nice looking hounds
i've only hunted with a few back in the day and they straddled a track head down all the way .....just my opinion but I like Blue dogs that dont need a track to tree a coon lay up treeing dogs....again just my opinion
Gascons
Thanks for the compliments, I really like her. The credit should go to others that have done the breeding.
Bartels, your description is accurate at least according to my experience. I like this style a lot, they take the first track they come to and stay on it. I like to sit on the tailgate and listen, pleasure hunting all the way. One more thing, her voice still gives me chills when she opens with a great big two-note bawl.
driller
everyone has different preferances I prefer the dogs that some of these blue guys have spent many years breeding that can drift a track... tree lay ups...they just work best for the way I hunt .I have seen the same thing with beagles some track slow walkie talkies some can smoke a track...its all in what ya like
Couldn have put it in bettr words well said
the dogs I have tree lay ups on a fairly regular basis, and drift out tracks as well. they do take their time settling in on the tree. the dogs that go back primarily to grant stock tend to not need a track. Shelton morris' old blue river boomer would be a good example. boomer being out of blue river mike a big dog going back heavily to grant stock. within the gascon lines I've seen about every flavor of track and tree style.
The dogs we havr here will also tree layups and drift tracks to they also have super cold noses but also will take a hot track when givin the opertunity but if it comes down to it they will cold trail it up till they tree all I ask for from my and my girl friends dads hounds id that they strike a track and come up treed with the meat I am a pleasure hunter but would like to try night hunts some people might not care for they style of hounds I hunt but that is there opinion I havent heard anyone say bad thing about my hounds nor do I want to but im sure I will along the way and thats fine because every one has there own thoughts the only thing that matters is that you like your hound and the way they hunt I like these big blues with there loud mouths I am excited to make this next cross with my male TRAPPER and a female we have in our kennel im excited to see how these pups turn out as soon as this cross is made
this is my young male. he is obviously colored a bit different than driller's female. driller's hounds and mine share some blood and have some differences. the silvermist influence in his dogs gives them a bit more bone mass. my dogs are a bit more rangey. both his dogs and mine get the ear from the silvermist bloodline.

thats a short woman, or a 90 lb hound! Looknig GOOD!

He is a fine hound Jeff, most impressive in person. I wish I could get down your way and hunt again, maybe this spring sometime.
