I was thinking more along the lines of offering two hunt divisions, something like Traditional Titles and a New Generation Title. Traditionals hunt a minimum of two hours under current rules. NewGens hunt 60 minutes, Garmin use allowed, spectators can shine, rules are whatever the majority agree on.

no

my vote is no but the huntin is what i enjoy the most, win or lose. 2 hours isnt much time to get even a small view of many of the dogs u r drawed out with.

That's funny JiM
Lmao!

But y would ur 60-90 min hunt wins be worth the same as a 120 min. hunt win?
In Feb. I saw a hunt for 3 hrs. coming.
Whoever wins at that hunt will get the same as th 2 hr. hunt winners.
Just don't seem rite to me, and u want to lower the time even more!
Naaa! Don't think so!

all i know is if ukc went to 60 or 90 minute hunts i'l start training my dogs to babble & so would a bunch of other hunters !!

2 hour hunts are just right. i wouldnt mind seeing an optional 3 hour hunt.

60 min hunts could open oppertunities for week night hunts and give people a chance to compete that might not have a chance otherwise altough the dog on top after 60 may not be the same dog after 120. I work 6 and 7 days a week at 10 and 12 hours a day from early march to late november. I would go for some 60 min hunts

If UKC would allow some shorter money hunts during the week and expand the number of hunts a club could have a year I would only have to struggle with knowing one set of rules. Lol.

How do you guys who can't squeeze out 2 hours on the weekend ever manage to get a dog ready for competition in the first place? You hear this over and over, two hours gets them home too late, work schedule, blah, blah, blah......how do you ever get one trimmed up for the hunts?

UKC offers one hour HTX hunts, any night of the week except Sunday. You don't have to hunt two hours, you don't have to hunt with other dogs, you don't have to beat anyone. And you still have the opportunity to title your dog. There yah go.

You got thousands of living dogs out there that all earned their titles by competing for two hours. You now want to give the very same title to dogs that just happened to lead after the first hour?

Guys all I was doing was trying to see if it might help attendance issues at the local clubs. Some clubs are even having trouble making there monthly light bills. Im just trying to think outside the box for once. The way the economy is (and I don't see it getting any better within the next decade or so). and the way land to hunt is getting, we as hunters need to start thinking about alot of this stuff.

the last thing we need is weekday hunts, the weekend hunts are hard eough to make money on as well as get enough entries to make it worth the effort to open the doors, turn on the grill and get supplies. the worst thing pkc did for clubs was have weekday hunts!

I couldnt care less about titles anyhow. Means nothing to me if ones granded out. Just makes pups higher. Im no breeder. Im a hunter. What matters to me is if one is throwing pups like I like. Don't matter if he or her has won a 1000 one hr hunts or 2 hour hunts. Im dang sure not gonna buy one or breed one just cause of a title. So I see nothing wrong with shorter hunts

I know this will never happen again because most of todays people wouldn't hunt the hunts,But a 300 - instead of 400- would seperate the hounds and the handler's, If it were 1 hour, two hour, or three hour hunt.
What was the reason for going to 400- ? I was out of country when this change was made.

Personally

I don't see where 90 minute hunts should be a problem. Actually depending on temps & weather a lot could be out of luck when the frost fell in the winter time just the same as a 2 hour hunt. I'd sure hunt 90 minute hunts & some weeknight 60 minutes too.

Posted by john Duemmer on 01-20-2013 06:18 PM:

Back when the hunts were 3 hours and 300- sent you packing alot of dogs didnt finish the hunt. I suppos the change was made to help keep the casts togeather for the whole hunt.

ONE HOUR HUNTS.

I agree with Jim, how can any man or woman get a dog ready for a hunt when he or she wants to whinned about the longevity of 2 hrs. I am now 64 and sometimes I sure don't fell like hunting every night or even 3 or more hrs some nights. Not bragging but I remember hunting a dog, getting home just in time to shower, grab breakfast and go to work, saying all day I wasn't going that night but after a good hot meal and resting the old legs felt an obilgation to the job, good or bad that the dog did the night before that I would head to the woods. I have the problem of less hunting land and even less places to turn a cast of strange dogs in but if you can't hack a 2 hr hunt you have a 60 min. option and you can exersized that option, but please don't give business people the idea of implementing a format that would lead to the futher weaking of the trailing hound. DWILS I like your idea.

i'd hate to think that i had a dog i had to hunt every night from dusk till dawn just so i could compete as for the htx its a joke any one can judge a dog so long as the dog has not been housed at their place or their not the breader can be your good ole buddy from down the road as long as he's not your regular hunting buddy and has knowledge of hound hunting my dog don't need a hour warm up to look good and can go as long as you can stand it

Mr. Eakins, one registry already has a 60 minute hunt, I dont see how it can hurt us. That registry is really thriving. But, I do not like the one hr. hunts but, anything to help attendance I'm for it. No one is whinning about the 2 hr. hunts, this is just a poll. Hey, I still hunt the 2 hr. hunts. I think the 90 minute hunt would benefit is all im saying. Maybe it would bring out a few more hunters to help ukc and our clubs.

didnt ukc night hunts use to be 3 hours long then they shorten them down to 2? id like to go to 3 hours in all kc hunts i believe it would weed out these hyped up dogs and let the dogs that dont get much credit because they aint strike quick tree quick dogs might even help the breed out who knows

I think each area of the country and even some states differ in hunting terrain.

I feel 60 minutes should be reserved for weeknight hunts. I like what Southern English Days does by having a 60 minute hunt Thursday but sticking with a 2 hour format on the 2 weekend nights.

I like the idea of 90 minute hunts especially for some areas where hunting areas are getting harder to come by. Here in my area alot of guys can guide on the weeknight other KC hunts but they do not have enough spots for a 2 hour hunt. Maybe with a 90 minute option a few of them could guide.

Sadly I think land use may drive this issue more than what we prefer or want, and I see that as more of an issue as we move forward. Land is being sold, houses continue to be built even in this economy, and deer leases jump in to gobble up available land.

Basically my point is that each area and club has different circumstances, and the 2 clubs I am a member of may not take these options now, but in the very near future we may have no choice...Time will tell.
