Was talking to a local trapper today at work he traps from tama county to fort dodge area. He has 250 snares out in 2 days he only got 26 coon 1 otter. He's all mad cause it's not even covering his gas money hope he goes broke and people cut his snares.

Hey T-Monroe how old is your blue pup? Pretty impressive for a pup. Nice job.

T-monroe

Those coon in your picture seem to be a much lighter color than what we have here in SE Ohio. Is that the normal color of most your coons caught during your kill season?? Just curious.

Early season yes lighter color but they will start to get darker as season goes on.

She is 2 this month and treed the first three then we took her with our 4 year old female the next night (guess I should have said it wasn't all just her but it sure made her want to push harder).

Smoke and I cut loose twice together Saturday night never saw him again after that not even sure if we can call that hunting together??

Been treeing some, killing some and leaving some. Hate to skin for less than 25 per hide so guess I will not be skinning very many lol

Anybody doing any good last few nights?

Posted by Mossydxt on 11-09-2012 07:25 PM:

Just been able to go three nights since season opened. First night got one. Second night got skunked. Third night got two. I'm workin a 10 month old pup. Seems like they're sure moving late though where im at. Around 11 or 12 has been my best times.

Posted by jayce jenkins on 11-09-2012 07:41 PM:

I haven't been treeing or seeing many coon this year. I know I'm light on dog power but I mean not even getting struck not seeing any sitting up in a few spots that are normally loaded. Had my best night last night. Dogs each had what sounded like good tracks that they did a nice job on with a coon at the end. Then another lay up. A slick on a lay up(coon was two trees down). Then two nice looking, well used, den trees after some tough tracks. Just been tough but mainly hunting a 17 month old male pup so maybe that is part of the problem.

Hunting has been tough here as well. Don't help every "wanna be" coonhunter has to spotlight every tree and shoot coon. Just don't get it for 5-10$ coon

Around here it seems they are running late (after midnight). We also walked in deep where most people won't go or just don't go. The spots where we went last year seems worthless, so we just keep moving around trying different spots and have got lucky a few nights. We are going to try another new spot tonight and see how it goes.

I hear ya Travis. Opening night I ran into 7 different groups of coon hunters. Most I've ever seen before this year was 2. My neighbor stopped up and wanted to know if I was hunting the river below his house. Said his wife heard hounds and all his traps were gone in the morning. Said he knew it wasn't me but just wondered if I had seen anything or heard anything. People that do crap like that are what makes it tough for coon hunters. Makes everyone think all coon hunters are scum and makes it hard for an honest hunter to get permission from landowners that think all coon hunters are like that.
