vernonsdream I assume your referring to me .You mention carbon dating but how do you know its accurate? There are many examples of carbon dating done on the same specimen with the results being "millions" of years apart ,doesn't sound to reliable to me.also the continental drift are you speaking of the pangea (sp)theory ? if so the continents do not line up, the books promoting this show a pretty picture but they distort the size of some of the continents to make them fit or leave some out completely,look close where is mexico ?Think about this also what is under the oceans ?Is it not land ,there is an ocean floor isn't, wouldn't that make all land connected just visible land separated by water.
I believe the Bible teaches a young earth I believe in a literal six days creation.

Just watched a movie last night on turner classic movies called Inherit the wind starring Spencer Tracey, About a science teacher put on trial in holmes county , Ohio for trying to get his students to consider Charles Darwins evolutionary thoughts on the origin of the species. Ol spence lined up all kinds of experts but the judge wouldn't allow that. They were going to testify that the earth was over a million years old, while the bible thumpers figured around six thousand years old give or take a millineum or so.

I wasnt referring to anyone in particular but I appreciate your post. A young earth is something I have struggled with for years. Yes Im talking about Pangea. The continents dont line up because they have been moving and breaking apart over the last few billion years.
You bring up the point that carbon dating can be off by millions of years: I agree that it is and can be. So if scientists are able to determine and admit that it can be off by millions of years, that would make the point drive home even harder that if it can be off by so much then a young earth would be improbable. Wouldnt it? If the over and under is a million years, give or take how would that explain an earth a few thousand years old? How do you explain the earths distance away from stars? Thanks again for posting, and I would like to say the TIME of creation doesnt matter nearly as much as the CREATOR, God. I do respect your views of a literal 6 day creation and I dont want to put anyone down for saying so.

Vernonsdream what I am saying is it's not reliable at all (CD) look at the examples of petrifide(sp?)trees show in the vertical position in the strata in layers science deems hundreds of millons of years different from bottom to top of those trees, those layers didn't take billons of years just Noahs flood told in the Bible.

as for billy graham removing the statement about mormans, he went ecumenical a long time ago and now has no where to draw a line. he even down with the catholics. all paths lead to the same place for him. as for me, there is one way and that is by jesus's grace by faith alone.

The same scientists that say the earth is 6 billion years old are the same ones that say we originated from monkeys and Neanderthals......and that all life on earth formed from a little microscopic cell in a puddle of water and for no purpose at all decided to turn into a fish, which later grew legs and walked onto land but couldn't breath so he grew lungs and the bull goes on and on...

I just find it crazy that many people believe theories like that and yet mock the thought we were all made by the same creator ....because if you ask me there is way too many amazing things on this earth for it to have all just happened from a puddle of water 6 billion years ago

good question and it all depends on 2 things, and one of them is impossible to answer.

1. it is impossible to know how old the earth was before our creation.

2. are you asking how old it is since the beginning of the human creation and what we have biblically.

if you are asking how old in refference to the creation and history of our Bible then it is somewhere around 6000 years old according to scripture. it would take some time, but i can explain by using the Bible only and letting it interprit itself. i rely and use God's Word and not man's theories. after all if we are to be Christians then we must believe and follow every Word of God. our ways are not his ways, neither are our thoughts his thoughts.

beginning with the archeological landmark event of the fall of Jerusalem (which has now been corrected to 588 B.C., instead of 586-587 B.C.) and counting backwards the prophesied number of years between this event and the division of Solomon's kingdom (390 yrs. + 40 yrs., according to Ezekiel 4:4-7), brings us to 1018 B.C.

From the end of Solomon's 40-year reign to the start of the Temple in the 4th year of his reign takes us back another 37 years to 1055 B.C.

From the start of Solomon's Temple "in the 480th year" (1 Kings 6:1) back to the Exodus from Egypt (hence 479 years previous) brings us to near 1534 B.C.

From the Exodus out of Egypt to Abraham's entering Canaan from Haran was exactly 430 years to the day (Gen 12:10/ Exodus 12:40/ Gal 3:17), thus around 1964 B.C.

Since Abraham entered Canaan at age 75 (Gen 12:4), he was born approximately 2039 B.C.

From Abraham's birth to Noah's grandson (Shem's son), Arpachshad's birth, 2 years after the Flood started, was 290 years (Gen 11:11-26), this places the onset of the Flood at around 2331 B.C. [definitely 4,300-4,400 years ago].

The genealogy of Genesis 5:3-32 precludes any gaps due to its tight chronological structure and gives us 1,656 years between Creation and the Flood, thus bringing Creation Week back to near 3987 B.C. or approximately 4000 B.C.

Therefore, the biblical age of the Earth (using Scripture itself as a guide) is 6,000 years !! Mankind did not evolve 4 million years ago on an Earth which is 4.5 billion years old in a universe which was "big-banged" into existence 18-20 billion years in the distant past. Jesus Christ, the Creator Incarnate, said He made mankind male and female in the beginning (Mark 10:6), and that when the heavens and the earth were commanded into being (Gen 1:1), they "stood up together" (Isa 48:13) not billions of years apart !!

Jim, you seem to know the Bible better than me. That's good! My rebutal is that until the 1400s, most of the Western world believed the world was flat. Some folks were burned at the stake as heretics if they saw things different.

Heck, it has been over 40 years since folks took pictures of the Earth from the moon showing the Earth as round.

I believe in the Bible for a spiritual guide. But, as a factual guide as to when the Earth was created, why deny the obvious?

that is why i said our creation as we know it! the bible clearly lets us know that the earth was here and covered with water. Gen 1:2 and the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. i don't deny the dinosaurs, but they wasn't in our creation. God must have flooded the earth when they lived here before our creation like he did durring the days of Noah. all i'm saying is that according to Biblical documentation that is more accurate than anything we have know to man, is that the earth under our creation is about 6000 years old.

first of all....Satan was tossed from heaven like lightening to the earth way before adam appeared. read psalms 104:5 this actual predates the genesis. Genesis actually is not the first bible book written. Job was actually the first account written by man. Moses wrote Genesis and there Job and Abraham predate Moses.
with that said Psalm 104 reads that waters covered the earth first. now hand with me here. When Jesus threw out the demons that were in a man called legion, remember where they wanted to be tossed to? into Water. I believe demon spirits cant pass threw water. I believe that When God created the earth he tossed Satan to the center of the earth and captured him there by covering the earth in water. Later when he wanted to create man and raise him up, he had to rebuke the water back to expose land in vs. 7 and 8 of psalm 104. this freed satan to come up at this point and God appointed him to crawl on his belly as a serpent and then man was exposed to Satan.
That means Satan was on earth before Adam.
Ezekiel 28:13 you have a conversation declaring that Satan was in Eden

Now we know a few things. That a day with the lord is like a thousand years and a thousand years like a day. We have no idea how long the earth was here before adam.
We also know in Job which is the oldest book in the bible that God describes the dinasaurs. job 40 vs15-19 God himself said in vs 19 that the behemouth ranks first among the works of God.

So we have a time laps that most church attenders dont study or understand. we argue with scientists that the earth is 6 thousand years old and we are just wrong about that. That is not denying the bible. I just gave you all the evidence you need to know that it older than 6 thousand years old. We have ended up looking religious and stupid instead of informed with the word and wisdom. It has been there are along, the bible isnt written in chronological order. which means it wasnt written first to last. the books of the bible are all out of order. there are chronological bibles out there. might do you good to read and study one.
Carbon dating has proven to be very accurate so when they find a layer of soil that carbon dates to tens of thousands of years or older, they indeed could be closer to right than us christians.

there are other scriptures I am studying that I believe lead to the theory that there was another race of man before adam that was destroyed by water as well. I am of the belief that this is where demon spirits mated with animals and created the so called ape man etc giants and freaks of nature. Because When God made the promise not to destroy the earth with water AGAIN could that mean it had been destroyed once already?

We need to be careful of quoting what our pastors teach from the pulpit who may not have been called by God to their positions and or have been taught in error from a particular bible college and pass it on as fact.

I know for sure that I have read a dictionary from a particular denomination that was issued to a student that declares for a fact that when you look up the word miracle it says : These were events executed by Jesus and the disciples and that they ceased when the last apostle died!!

Now that is being taught in bible college. One scripture excludes that from being true. john 14:12-14 Jesus says " ANYONE (not just the disicples) who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory the the father. You may ask me for anything in my name and I will do it."

So be careful what we declare as truth before we have studied it .
