I would like to see all the KC's come together and use the same rules... I hate it when somone spouts off a rule that doesn't apply to the KC you are hunting... Probably will never happen though.

It is handled through the breed associations.

So if I hunt Blueticks I would need to join the BBOA and go through them?

Correct, you can join any of them, no matter what you hunt.

To be able to hunt a still mouth dog I would rather get bet by a still mouth dog then a babbling idiot that me two a dog that had the true track

I would like to be able to squall right away. And if handler choose to squall minus the tree if no coon found.

Any dog struck before a minute goes in for 25. If dogs are opening and struck before a minute they are not having to hunt that hard to find a coon track.

So I guess I wil have to hunt harder spots (this is toward your last comment) or should I just cast out the dogs in an open field 300yds away from the timber?

I would be in favor of....

1. Using garmin during hunt time. I don't think a judge should use a garmin to score a dog but he should be able to ask any handler to see their garmin at any time to help him get a better handle on a dogs general whereabouts. And most importantly to keep dogs and hunters safer.

I also would like to see ukc allow every club to designate one hunt as garmin or tracker test hunts. Let those hunts be held with the use of trackers and have the club file a report on how the hunters felt it effected the casts, the good and the bad. That way ukc would have some info or suggestions for the breed associations in regards to this at rules time. Club would not have to but could do only one test hunt if they wished to. Why not at least try it out?

2. I like the idea of no minute rule or if dogs are struck in the minute they can only go in for 25. Or the minute rule with any dog barking through the minute dogs can only be struck in for 25. If one dog barks through more than half of the first minute and is the only dog barking 2 times in on a cast that dog goes in for 25 on strike the rest of the hunt. Way to many loose mouth dogs in the hunts right now. Need to try something to curb this trend.

3. Allow squalling at tree right away and reduce shine time to 8 minutes. Many times in the summer you are just wasting 7 minutes waiting to squall.

IMO all of these or some form of them would be a good change for the hunts going forward.

No buckets here and its not unusual for dogs to be honestly struck in the first minute.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that's in favor of using garmins during a nite hunt! Sure thought I was in the minority on that.

Pack up your hounds and come up and find out. And yes, I will let you hunt 1 dog at a time.

Spectators shining

I would like to see spectators and non hunting guides etc. be allowed to shine as long as all cast members agree. If one person doesnt want them to shine then they are not allowed period. I see this ruke get broken more than any other rule out there so why not change it?

BAM, YOU NAILED IT.

scratched!!! they break the rules to help them win, and enforce rules to make others lose. THUNDER DOME STYLE IS THE WAY TO GO.

X2, just as soon as you find out you've drawn out with a known cheater/ fighter stop before you cast dogs and scratch them and if they then want to fight, go ahead an knock them in the head right light. then go hunt'n THUNDER DOME STYLE.

So you're saying jacking a tree should be considered agressive behavior...? Isnt that like saying catching a coon on the ground is agressive behavior... ? Those dogs only cause problems when theres a mean POS on the tree with em that cant take it if a dog bumps into em. Treejacking isnt showing aggression towards other dogs but towards the coon rather IMO... I dont appreciate treejacking but have also owned a few that would do it that didnt have an ill bone in their body...

What use a Garmin during hunting time? Is this a coonhunt or a computer game? Have we come to the point where we have to reley on technolegy to tell us what our dogs are doing, and we no longer need to actually know our hounds and what they are doing in order to be able to compete. Have we became that poor of houndsman? what a shame! I hope they never allow them durning hunting time. Dont get me wrong I believe that they are excellent training tools to use durning the week and they come in pretty handy keeping dogs safe and helping get back to truck but there is no place for them in a hunt durning hunting time!

I think those of us that are " for " the use in the garmins in nite hunts really like the idea keeping tabs on our dogs. I honestly can see where they would be handy keeping dogs from getting run over, getting on posted land, using the eletronic compass to find your way out of woods your not familiar with etc. Many benefits. I don't think it has anything to do with being a good houndsman. Everybody uses them during the week religiously, so why not use them in the hunts? I really don't see how you can cheat with them and have yet to hear a " Good " answer on how you can cheat by using them. Not being sarcastic I just really like to know.

Posted by jacobhills on 10-17-2012 09:43 PM:

Like I said in my previous post I can see were alot of the tools an the Garmin come in very handy and dont have a problem with them if they are used durning time outs, But not everyone has a garmin. So lets say fo instance that we are in a cast and way off in the distance we can barely hear the hounds or maybe just one hound but you cant really tell if they or it is treeing or trailing you and I are both tied and this coon is the decieding factor I have a garmin and you dont. Is it cheating or just tough luck if I happen to pull out my Garmin look at it and declare my dog treed we get to them and there sits the coon. Here is another thing to think about. What if someone wants me to hunt a hound for them and I dont know this dog from adam but I have a garmin. So I guess really dont need to know this dog at all the garmin will tell me everything I need to know. What happened to it being the handlers responsibilty to know and call his dog. Once again I dont have a problem with the garmins just not during hunting time on a cast. Can we please stick with alittle bit of tradition.

I can see your point about not everybody having one! As far as telling if a dog is treed by looking at a garmin is up in the air to me. I know will so treed if he's just staying in a real close area, or hung up in some brairs, heck even if he's in the dog box. Also just as a judge has a right to look and see if it's turned on, he could check to be sure you have the tree'n mode turned off. Understand about tradition though! Thanks for the reply and not getting mad!lol nothing wrong with a healthy debate!

jacob, you could use your beep beep!!!LOL i think a garmin would be great for someone who was hearing impaired like me!!LOL
