I like the ones Red Freeman hand makes. By far the best sound of any squaller I've ever heard.

In essence, I have gained twelve minutes of hunting time over you and your dog..

I promise that learning how to shine and squall a tree from a competitive stand point is very important..

The dim light slowly getting louder takes to long.

The key is to get to a spot that you can shine the tree the best, and work the tree over hard and fast... If coons are there they are usually easy to find..

You bring up some good points because my post was not concerning comp hunting. I still would opt for the low light method though myself. I have found if a coon is going to look at the low light, he will probably do it in the first 1-2 minutes so you still are really not loosing much time.
If that coon is hid well and will not look at the bright light, you probably will not see him at all!

Where do you find a DJ squaller? Been looking online with no luck.

DJ Calls Perfect Coon Squaller
Remember the P.S. Olt N-27 Perfect Coon Squaller well its back! This is David Jackson of DJ Calls Co., I worked for the Olt co for 27 years and I'm making the N-27 again. The coon squaller is built the same way as it was when I worked for the former Olt Co. This coon squaller is the BEST coon squaller on the market and has been since 1954! Go to my web site www.djcalls.com to get your squaller today, or visit your local dealer.

I have to agree with what Jim said about using one before the coon has been seen on a slick tree but for me a squaller is too valuable to just leave at home. Every dog is different and you must use your head but in most cases as we’ve all seen before you can really get a dog fired up on the tree by using one. In some cases I believe it can be just as an effective method of using positive reinforcement for your dog as knocking one out is. I will say this also I rarely carry a gun out of season and I have in many cases jumped a coon out of the tree while using my Banshee squaller. Something I couldn’t have done with my mouth alone, not only that but I was still able to reward my dog without breaking any laws. It’s just my opinion but you want catch me without one while I’m out hunting.

The wardens i have talked with tell me in NC carrying a squaller out of season is illegal.....something about device for harassment of game.

I would like to see this in the regulations book. I have read it very extensively over the last few years and do not recall seeing this. Maybe it is new???
