good rule

the 15 is a good rule when your hunting with a ill dog that u cant prove......and your dog comes in for a short time because of the ill dog growling, cutting up,some dogs are timid

I'd like to see them do away with it. Why would anyone care if someone elses dog is not hunting? It is not hurting you or your dog.

It's not a trait you really want to breed back into the bloodline. I've seen way too many that won't hunt by themselves. We need to quit using these individuals in breeding program.Scratching them from hunts is the least we could do.

It's thinking like that is why we have so many idiots on the end of leashes now. It's hurts everybody including the breed. Please stay away from the breeding end of this buisness.

Agree

Should be 2 min. If one comes in for 2 min it should be sent home. Cause if it comes back. Its seriously lacking in the drive department.

I can't agree with that. Not everyone wants a dog that you have to go hunt for after you turn it loose to hunt.

A dog that handles good through the week and checks back in after hunting an area out should not be penalized in the hunts by a 2 minute non hunting rule. Makes no sense for the sport going forward, woods getting smaller and smaller and hunters breeding for dogs that hunt wider and wider with less and less reverse.

15 minute rule

I agree, it isn't hurting anyone if a dog comes back. My dog will check in with me, has nothing to do with drive. Sometimes he will stay with me for 1 second, sometimes 10 minutes. Depends on how the coons are moving.
He did just turn 1yo though.

Mine stands for 10 minutes it's time to move or relocate. If it becomes a habit, the dog will definately get relocated, to somewhere other than my lot. I'm not scared of the dark, I don't need mine keeping me company.

Not to mention its just plum embarrassing. You can bet somebody is gonna have one busted through yonder somewhere. It ain't like we are gonna call timeout and relocate for the non hunters. Heck now I don't even think it needs any time limit. If they come back and Stop around in or at cast. Scratch em for not hunting.

Im sure there are alot of ways of eliminating the competition, without comeing up with more. I've seen alot of dogs that hunt an area out and come in. I've also seen alot of dogs that will hang back and tree behind those so called hunting dogs. JMO

As I was saying everyone likes something different and breeds for different things. Do away with the rule and don't worry about someone elses dog. If you have a coon dog they are hard to beat. I am not concerned what everyone elses dog is doing, just mine.

Half this board is trying to come up with ways to increase entries at the clubs and we're arguing about a non-hunting dog some kid or newbie brings out and enters in a hunt. Take there entry and let them learn what it takes to win in stead of scratching em and chasing them away.
If you get beat very often by a non-hunting dog they must be better than it sounds on paper.

Well you guys seem not to understand the idea behind these hunts. It is to measure the dogs against certain minimum standards. If they run trash, the dog is penalized or scratched for that. They accumulate too many mistakes, they are done. If they never open on trail, that's not allowed either. And if they stand around inside your light for 15 minutes, they are out. Now I've hunted in prolly over 100 hunts and seen a grand total of one dog scratched under that rule and that one was in PKC. One dog in all those years. I could count on my fingers the number of time I've seen the 15 or 30 started in all those years. So you guys are saying our youth will leave the sport because of something that is rare as hens teeth. Do you guys even hunt with kids???? My gawd fellas, I have never yet seen the first kid that would stand for their dog being inside the light for 15 minutes. It's absolutely incredible what some of you guys will put up with in a dog. And don't give that checkin in crap or the woods today are too small. Nobody's getting scratched or even clocked for hunting close. Unless they are struck on the card, they are not even penalized for checking in. This rule is strictly limited to a dog that stays in your light for 15 continuous minutes. Get real and think about what you're defending here.

That's right. Continue running the 15 when you recut. Don't start a new 15.

I agree with both of ya'll. It's what I call checking in, not checking out of the hunt. I really want a dog to check in. In , just guessing, 30-45 minutes, I want a dog to check in and let me see him so I can load him if I want to. But see him is about all I want do do when he comes past me and heads on to make a circle around another leaf of a four leaf clover. To come in and stay for 2 minutes means he has checked out and ready to quit. I don't like that.

What I am saying is I am not concerned about your dog how it hunts or if it hunts. If I bring a dog to a hunt I want it to go tree a coon. The dog that trees the most coon at the end wins. Instead of the guy that is able to figure out a way to scratch or minus everyone elses dogs.

That's how it's done in PKC. They have to be gone for five min. or get struck in. When time out is called the 15 is resumed when time is called back in. A dog that won't hunt is either sick or worthless period.
