I have talked to Terry Nading the President of the Federation 4 years ago or so the last year the Federation was active. Because of lack of participation Terry said the interest levels have dwindeled away and the federation has not been active for this length of time. Terry has agreed to participate in a meeting on December 8th in Scranton Kansas to try and get the Federation back up and going.

We have reserved the Scranton Communitty building on December 8th, 2012 3:30pm in the afternoon to hold this meeting.

We will be taking memberships on this day to get everyone joined back up and plan for a State Hunt in 2013. We need as much as participation as possible.

Look Forward to seeing you all there. If you have any questions Please feel free to Call Marcus Leck 620-485-4564.

its as in center of the state I could get or the center of the coon hunting part of the state I should say. Part of the reason the Federation folded in the first place is because if it wasn't in people back yards they didn't support it.

I am not from Kansas, so I have really no dog in this fight (pun certianly intended). But this statement right here is why countless coon clubs fold. It shouldnt be about how it is going to benifit you directly, but about how it will benifit the sport of coonhunting and coondogs. The more active clubs/federations/associations etc. in this country the better off we all will be in the long run. Active clubs in the community help promote the sport and bring understanding to non hunters and in return can even help you gain some more hunting ground. In this day and age our rights to do this are threatened all the time. Look at the folks in CA who cant use there hounds anymore for lions or bears. Its strength in numbers...and the more numbers you can put down on a piece of paper to show the few that we are standing strong the better off we will all be regardless of which state you live in.

To those attending the meeting. I hope it works out for the best! Good luck.

Cory I am all for what you have said. In the past this group has done nothing for our hunting rights. I was trying to see what the goal is for them. One fact that needs addressed in the State of Kansas is there is no right to retrieve. This means if your dog gets on someones land you have no rights to go get him what so ever and the land owner can do as wants.

I have heard many people talking about that issue at the hunts and I would imagine it will be brought up at the meeting. The first step I think is to try and get the federation back up and going so that we have a larger voice. I know conibear sets on land is another issue that people would like to have changed but we have to have get organized as a group in order to get things changed.

Dale I will tell you right now you are dead wrong. Back in about 93 or 94 there was a law presented in legislation that done away with the use of any artificial light after dark for any purpose of hunting. There were several people from the Federation that lobbied Topeka during session hired a professional lobbyist to get this over turned as it had done made it out of committee and was on the floor of the house they succeeded by overturning the bill.

The Federation is also our states voice inside UKC and used to be a STRONG voice inside Kansas Wildlife and Parks when we were strong back in the 90’s, Federation is responsible for facilitating a state hunt which will crown a state champion, and Federation facilitates a state youth hunt {or did when the Federation was going active}.

I do not know if Kansas has ever had a right to retrieve law but I sure dont ever rememeber one but if they did I would like to know the year it got taken way and what the bill number was that it was in for research. But what I do know is that if we would have had a strong Federation a few years back maybe we could have fought off the purple post Law.

I am not sure what might benefit “YOU” from a Federation stand point and probably nothing I guess when looking for something on a personal level but knocking something you are not active in nor do I ever remember you being active in I somewhat question. You have kind of caught me off guard with your opinion but it is something you are entitled to. Thanks for asking.

Robbie and all others that have offered to help to try and get the Federation active again to try and help protect the sport we choose I really appreciate all the volunteering to whatever.

I have been hesitant to say anything, but those of you who are saying what will the Federation do for me need to ask the Federation what you could do for it. I assume that you like to run your dogs in the summertime. Thank the Federation. That was a long hard fought battle. That was won back in the late 80's. Something that you also need to be aware of is that the trappers were there to support us. Every one of us need to step up to the plate. This fight will take erveryone of us. When we were fighting for the right to train our hounds in the summer, these meetings were packed with hunters, 50 to 60 people. You go to a hunt now there are only 10 to 15 people. Not going to win very many fights with so small an army. You need to ask youself where were you, why weren't you helping.

I was just trying to play the bad guy as I stated before. I'm all for the Federation and would have been in attendance if it wasn't for a prior engagement. Marcus you know that you will get my membership and if I can help let me know. See you at Altoona at the next hunt.

Just talked to Terry Porter he spent several hours one the phone today talking to potential sponsors. He said he had a good bit of interest. He also asked me to pass along hos email address so if anyone else was doing the same they could contact him to prevent overlap. Terry's email is tsporter@embarqmail.com he said feel free to contact him anytime.

I would like to ask everyone that would like to be in an email chain from the Kansas Federation of Houndsmen or if you know someone that would like to receive the information to please send me an email at marcus_talia@yahoo.com Provide name, email and phone number.

You do not need to be a member to know what is happening with the Federation as we welcome all observers. However becoming a member would be great.

Terry Porter thanks a bunch for the effort in taking on this task.

Currently we are trying to get scheduled a Kansas State Championship hunt/Show to be held in Scranton Kansas sometime in April {hopefully the second weekend}. I have been working with UKC today to get this worked out and more information will be coming in the next day or so.

We are taking donations for State Champion Bench Show winners. We have already had hunt winner Trophies donated.

I appreciate all the compliments and handshakes but I have not done anything. Everyone that showed up at the meeting is just as deserving as I. We will try and get this thing built back and hopefully become a strong voice inside Wildlife and parks and Legislature in the State of Kansas.

That is great news. Glad to see the ball is rolling. To be honest I was kind of surprised at the number of people that were willing to volunteer for offices, or just help out where needed. In this world it seems like most people are content to watch from a distance, and then throw rocks when things don't go there way. I think it is a GREAT sign for the future of the Federation.

If I can be of any help please let me know. Thanks.
