If you've already got a good thing its crazy to mess with it. I can see wanting a more central hunt for some but I don't see why ukc didn't just add another one. If it was a good one. Like the first of March or something. Would have made twice the money off 2 events.

Who cares that it moved? Sounds like its closer to more people now...plus if it was close to you think about all the other people driving across country to get to the event for the last 25 years. Looks like a nice spot to have it considering it will be indoors and in the middle of January!

Quit bellyaching...buck up and make the drive

Irony of the whole situation is the ones carryin on like a 3 week old pup that got drug outa the doghouse are locals that never have had to drive to it any great distance. Understandable the loss of home feild advantage & not havin'ta spend a bunch of $$$ to get there.Think about those that have drove boo-koo miles to it yearly? I know the same will be said about Autumn Oaks by many but at least that is centrally located in the heart of our competition world.

Those of us in the snowbelt enjoy a warmin at an event in the winter, generally. For all those sayin "They been to their last" will be replaced by as many or more that WILL be to their first.

No matter what'cha do........AHHH,Not gona beat that bloated diller.

Got me'ta thinkin bout makin that trip for sure. On another note, stay tuned for a possible growing event in Wisconson that is hopin to switch registeries to UKC. Potential potential potential.................... ~!~

well when you look at all the hardwork, time an effort put on by the locals to host this event for 25 years, then to have it taken away through no fault of their own, i feel they have the right to be upset and make their voices heard.

Anytime & everytime an event like this has moved it ruffles feathers "&" smooths some out.

25 yrs is a great run but sometimes change is also a great thing. Long long time for an event to stay in one location & gota give the Albany area a huge "KOO-DOO" for the run.

Also gota give the Batesville location a huge THANK YOU & those that are gona be involved gettin "US" to the timber. I sense a touch of excitement in the air...

No, you do not need a civic center to have a coonhunt. This isn't some fancy facility, it's more like a rodeo / stadium atmosphere. Dogs and dirt welcome. It will house everything under one roof. The show, vendors, sponsors, breed associations, kitchen, restrooms, UKC office. Weather will not be an issue. This facility also has just as large of an open sided building for studs, dogs, pups, etc. Tons of parking in fields around the facility. Very easy in and out. Just off the highway. It is going to be an awesome place to have a hunt.

I understand that those of you from Georgia are upset because it will be further away. But what does that say to anyone who lived west of central Alabama and has made the drive to support the event for the last 25 years? Now we are half way between Georgia and Texas. How could it be more fair to more people than that?

The move may have made it closer for folks from Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, etc - but it aslo made it a farther drive for those along the east coast states. One hand washes another !!!

Had a lot of good times in Albany but if I got it figured right it's about 130 or so miles closer to me from where I live in Michigan and the hills are lower along the route . I've made 23 of the 25 in Albany and each one has cost me around a $1000 for various reasons related to the trip . Having said all that Laurie & I are a lot older, slower and retired now plus things seem to be moving away from what I enjoyed so maybe we'll get to see it and maybe we won't.
I do think separating it farther from the GA will tend to draw the line more distinctly between those who have always had to choose one or the other.

Thanks for the good times Albany & UKC. Spent a lot of time there and had never heard of it until the Winter Classic.

That should be a major concern. The mess many make and leave I wouldn't blame them if they chased us away with a stick but all that as it is there has to be places to stay for those from any distance. Have had a few problems in recent years that were uncalled for and has made me stay away from motels "IF" I have a choice.

wow

im glad it moved to batesville.. i live in batesville and it is a nice town with nice places to stay.. the chickasaw cabins in sardis are new and really nice and the cabins around sardis lake are nice to.. and they are only about ten minutes from the fairgrounds..and if yall have any questions about batesville i will try to answer them for ya

Why is everyone suggesting this was done to accomodate the show? Nothing could be further from the truth. And while in fact it will be an awesome place to have a show, it is going to be on dirt for this year anyway. They will be able to do a nice job packing it and leveling it and it won't be dusty. If we can eventually back this event up a couple weeks into February, we will hopefully be able to have the dirt pulled out and have everything on concrete.

I will bet you the motels in town will have a different view of pets after one event. But another question I have is....how many people even insist on taking their coonhound into their room? I know some of you do but it has to be a huge minority of those attending. I am curious though. Probably should start a poll.

They will be different after the first one but we got to deal with it this time.I'm not going to Batesville and leave my good hound in a dog box except to hunt and do his business.Plus take a chance of my dog getting stolen

Im gonna say that most folks dont care about having a pet friendly room anyways.
