lol, good one.

Hey Chris,

Two years ago, When I became a Director, I got a list of clubs and contact info from UKC. I personally contacted and talked with every club and most club Presidents, so that approach has been tried with some success. Two years ago we would be lucky to have 5 or 6 clubs represented. We really need all clubs to send reps the State Association is about much more than the State Hunt. We have reps at MUCC fighting to keep our rights, fighting road closures, and fighting anti-hunting to list just few.

We need everyone's support

Jeff

We have always had the State Hunt. I would like to see if we could get , maybe a breed hunt. How many times have you went to a big hunt only to hunt the same spots 3 nights in a row, with 3 different guides. I have seen cast coming out as we were going in and when we were coming out there was another coming in. Guess what we treed? NOTHING. Michigan has some of the best coon hunting the states. We need to get together a put in a bid for a major event. East of Lansing would be a good area to have it. Most of the clubs are with in an hour or so. Instead of a certain club putting in on, how about a shared income for all those who partisapate, or however you spell it. Those clubs to far, but who share some expence, or help out in other ways would also receive some income.

Next State Meeting-

Sunday Jan 22 at 1m at the Reading Club-Bring your Ideas.

Strokin- Come to the Meetings- We only had 2-clubs request the state hunt this year. Bellivue and Chesining. For Breed hunts you need to contact the Breed Assoc. and see if any are avaliable.

Can your club support 75-100 dogs 2-nights in a row?? Guides??
Facilities???

BACK TO MY POST

WHAT IMPROVEMENTS COULD BE MADE AT THE LOCAL CLUB LEVEL THAT WOULD CAUSE A PERSON TO DRIVE PAST OTHER CLUBS TO GET TO YOUR EVENT? I GUESS WHAT I MEAN IS WHAT ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS YOU WOULD LIKE IMPROVED ON A LOCAL LEVEL TO IMPROVE EVENTS !

Posted by bad-moon on 12-21-2005 02:02 AM:

local clubs

part of the problem is the price of gas, when you add up what you would spend at an event, then add the extra gas and time, allot of people go for the close club. in order to get someone to drive futher you would have to offer something the other clubs dont have. (but what)??? if i have more fun, and feel more welcome, and am judged fairly, im willing to go futher. just my 2 cents worth. not much help i know. if ya come up with the master plan please share the wisdom!

GARY

I CAN THINK OF SOME PERSONAL IDEALS THAT HAVE MADE THE DECISION FOR MY FAMILY IN THE PAST .

1. FIRST WOULD BE DOES IT HAVE ALL THE EVENTS? NOT JUST SHOW AND HUNT . WATER AND A TREEING CONTEST ALSO ?. I WOULD MUCH RATHER GO TO A CLUB HOSTING ALL THE EVENTS THEN TO ONE THAT WAS ONLY HAVING A SHOW OR HUNT.

2. SECOND I THINK THAT THE JUDGE FACTOR (WHO'S JUDGING) IN THE SHOW PART AND WHO IS MASTER OF HOUNDS PLAYS A BIG ROLE WHICH I KNOW YOU CAN'T ALWAYS CONTROL BUT IF I HAVE SHOWED OR HUNTED UNDER THE SAME PERSON 4 TIMES IN A ROW THIS MEANS IM EITHER WINNING 4 TIMES IN A ROW OR LOOSING 4 TIMES IN A ROW POSSIBLY IF THE SAME DOGS ARE ENTERED AND WE HAVE THE SAME JUDGE . IF I GET THE SAME JUDGE 2 DAYS IN Row Im more likely to go Somewhere else the Second day . Or second weekend .

3. KIDS BENCH SHOWS OR SOMETHING AT THE END FOR THE KIDS WHO DO THE BENCH SHOW MAKES A DIFFERENCE . KIDS LOVE IT AND IT KEEPS THEM OCCUPPIED FOR 15 MINUTES . SO WHY NOT ?

4. CLEAR ANNOUNCING OF WHAT IS GOING ON AT THE EVENTS THERE IS NOTHING MORE THAT RATTLES MY CHAIN WHEN I CAN'T EVEN HEAR THE NAMES BEING CALLED OF THE DOGS ENTERED OR HEAR WHAT A JUDGE IS SAYING OR DIDN'T KNOW OF A EVENT STARTING BECAUSE THERE WAS NO LOUD SPEAKER OR THE PERSON WAS SO QUIET YOU COULDN'T HEAR THEM . OR YOU ARE WONDERING WHEN DOES IT START ? ARE THEY DOING IT NOW ? IF THEY HAD A SPEAKER EVERYONE WOULD KNOW CLEARLY .

5. EVEN THOUGH WE ARE CLUB MEMBERS OF CLUBS SOMETIMES IT SHOWS AS A CLICK AND IF YOU DON'T EXPAND OUTSIDE OF THE CLUB MEMBERS TO INVITE OTHERS TO YOUR EVENTS AND SHOW THEY ARE WELCOME TO BE THERE AND YOU ARE HAPPY THEY ATTENDED YOUR EVENT INSTEAD OF THE OTHER 2 THEN THEY MIGHT TRY A DIFFERENT CLUB DUE TO FEELING LIKE A OUTSIDER !

6.MAYBE A PLAY AREA FOR THE KIDS ? JUST A THOUGHT ...I KNOW IF THEY HAVE A AREA TO PLAY IN IT KEEPS THEM BUSY AND THE PARENTS HAPPIER !!! SWINGS ECT. .. ...

I agree with you on all the items you have stated above. As for judges and MOH, I brought up this very issue at Belleview club during our last meeting. I think it very important to have good planning so that you can schedule a qualified bs judge and moh for each event. As much as possible, these need to be different people each time. As you say, if someone feels they did not like the judging, or a call by the moh, if they know its a different person the next day or event, they are more likely to return.

JMO

Just my opinion, which isn't much. Hunts the same night at different clubs, too many hunts period. Makes it too easy to finish a dog, win your cast most anytime treeing two coon and you got yourself a first place win. Just 4-5 years ago I was scoring 600+ and getting a 2nd or 3rd. 5-6 registered cast at each hunt. Now we're having two night hunts at two clubs the same weekend and every weekend. Numbers are going to be down and people are having their dogs finished in few hunts. Answer- not as many hunts, not the same night, not as many dogs getting finished quick=more entries and makes your wins more enjoyable.
PKC has state races, gives you a reason to go to hunts on a regular basis with your good dog year long and have something to keep you interested. I'll be honest, I don't enjoy UKC hunts as much anymore, sure use to. Again JMO
ps. Before you post to attend the state meeting.....Can't handle going to the state meetings to voice my ideas. Been to one, won't get into it. My ideas will be made on this board and to those I talk with that can handle the meetings. See ya at some hunts.

Gobles is SW Mich - about 20 miles west from Kalamazoo. Good hunting here, though its really getting built up.
How is the coonhunting in Sanilac County?

Howdy Bob,

The boys and I went out last night. Dandy did a real good job and managed not to get too deep into a 4 sq. mi. section.lol My youngest feel asleep in the truck pretty quick after our hike into the big country. The older two were still excited after the hour drive home.lol

Missy's brother and sister are growing like weeds and chewing on everything too. Your welcome.

triker,

There aren't too many places in Genesee County I fell safe cutting a dog. There is just too many roads and too many people ... lot's of coon though.
