Could it have been an overdose of wormer?? Rickittes wouldn't kill a dog, just cripple it.

I never give those 7 way shots until after the pup has turned 6 weeks old. The reason why? Cause the package says so. I don't care what the vet says. If the instructions on the package differ from what the vet says, I go by the package.

It is my understanding that Ricketts is caused mostly by poor feed .
But , in my opinion , if a pup has worms , the worms could have enough of an effect to cause a pup not to get all the nutrients it needs from its feed. Or , in other words , the worms are pulling the pup down faster than the feed can build it up.
Granted , the pup may have been wormed , but if it was kept in a worm infested environment , the wormings would do no good. As the pup would be re-infected in a day or two. In which case , the worms would eventually kill the pup , not the Ricketts.
Some people don't understand this and some just don't believe it , but when you worm dogs ( or puppies ) , you have to treat the ground or kennel where they are kept or the wormings don't do any good.

Ditto what Bob said. Hey bob how was the hunting this weekend up here in Michigan? I was hunting in Southern Indiana this weekend. Treed one stinking coon. only thing we saw moving all weekend were cats lol. Thankfully nobody treed one of them.

Justin, just so you know. If a doctor made it with "just C's" in medical school you can bet your butt he knows his stuff. He is still in the top 0.1% in the nation. People don't just go to medical school. First they go through 4 years of college (or equivalant). They had to have made almost straight A's through that to be considered. These are not normal college classes, but are in the hard core sciences like Biology, Chemistry, Calculus, Organic Chemistry, etc.

Then, if their grades are high enough, they take an all day test called the MCAT that covers Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Writing, and logic/comprehension. If they score at the top of the heap on that (which only people with college degrees going to medical school take) they apply to medical school and if they are lucky get interviews to those schools. Those schools pick the interviews from the applicants (the year I came here there were 1200-1400 or so applications for 60 spots) so just getting an interview is a huge honor.

Then they go through 4 years of medical school (which is aptly described as trying to get a drink of water from an open fire hydrant). This is because enough material is covered each DAY in each class that would fill an entire WEEKS worth of material in college for each class.

Now just passing with a C in those courses isn't enough because the last two years is all clinical rotations where the student doctor is graded by attending physicians, plus they have to pass Step I and Step II of the United States Medical Liscensing exam.

Then they graduate and have MD by their name but they still have to do residency, which ranges anywhere from 3 years for Family Medicine to 5 years for General Surgery and longer with fellowships etc.

A person is more likely to play professional football than to make it to med school, let alone actually pass because none of them are shy about failing folks. Yep, that doctor that just passed with C's from an American medical school is still going to be more than competent. He's already been top of his class in high school, and college, and passed an almost impossible amount of material in Medical school as well as passing the USMLE and he completed his residency. (Character is a whole different issue, though the process tends to weed out most of the bad apples before they are through).

Vet school may not be quite there, but I bet it is similar.

we had a vet around here ,years back ,that was/ had his own office and everything for several years till someone had problems with some of his work and their lawyer ran a background check on him and found out he never finnished his schooling, got himself a copy of a degree and a copy machine and he had his own office going in no time,,lol,,,,,

i think some of these doctors around here got there degrees the same way!!!!!!!!

Sheep, MD candidates are screened so thouroughly that it is almost impossible to be an "Educated Idiot". I left out several other trials and tests not to mention background checks etc.

A "C" is average. Think of it in terms of athletics. The average HS football player may not be very good, but the average College football player is very good. The "average" pro player is miles ahead of even the best college players. It's the same way with "average" doctors.

I have worked my entire life and in my experience most of the time "Educated Idiot" just means somebody is jealous. There are times it's true, but those are very rare.

I don't believe it was ricketts, the pup she was kenneled with is fine and I don't know that ricketts would have hit her after she left my kennel and killed her that fast, but I could be wrong. Dad or I have never had a case of ricketts in our kennels, so I'm definently not an expert on the subject.
