-- How do you score this???????????????? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=7043)

I have the answer!

From now on............... let's not question any calls in the timber! We all call Tank's or Todd's cell phones and get the correct interpretation from them. Do away with common sense rulings and the advisor! roflmao

I think we need a poll on this one! I hope T & T have voice mail and call waiting! We may have to extend the deadlines also! hehehe

if there is

a coon and a oppossum up in the tree then the benifit of doubt goes to the dogs you don't know which one the dog is really after, but if one dog is showing treed with the coon up in the tree and the other is looking face to face at a po-sam in a hollow at the bottom of the tree he's not showing tree he's clearly after the oppossum, come on the dog is baying at the bottom of the tree not looking up!!!!

unfortunately.....

...common sense is not-so-common.

One fella's version may say that the dog is treeing in a hollow tree with a possum in it. One version may say that he is treeing in a tree with a possum in the basement and a coon in the penthouse. Both would be right.

The main objective is to score the dogs as consistently as possible. With that said, both dogs must be plussed.

As far as the cell phone calls....You would probably have to extend the deadline to Monday mornings for me and Wednesday morning for TK.....

send me a copy of that advisor,im about out of toilet paper.

when common sense no longer is a part of our rules, our hunts are in deep trouble.
if my dog is barking face to face at a possum when im out pleasure hunting, guess what he gets.and i dont care if theres 50 coon up the tree,he aint gettin no plus neither.

Yup, there as dumb as the dog!!!Getting plus barking face to face with a opposum,Some people need to go watch "Dumb and Dumber" I guess if your dog is barking at a "grinner" 10 feet away from a treed dog with a coon, he gets plussed, since "old potlicker" is under the circumference of the tree as some people say, or is baying a "grinner" outside a culvert with a dog treed in a culvert, since only 1 dog has to show the hole. Come on tank, give me a break, this is ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!

Geez man you are really off the deep end on this one. Why are you so dang fired up about this. Just because somebody doesn't agree with you, they are dumb. What happen, you lose a hunt because of this or what. Chill out. I have twice, treed a coon and a grinner in the same tree. You mean you or elvis would beat a dog for this. C'mon, how do you know what the dog was actually running. I agree that if the dog was face barking a possum he should be minused, but right now a rule is a rule and your ranting and raving is not gonna change the rule any sooner. Man if you would just discuss it rationally, I am sure you would get better results. When you come on here and say everybody is dumb because they don't agree with you, then you are gonna catch a lot of grief.

Plotts are us: Something similiar to this happened while pleasure hunting. We need to get this straight. The base of the tree was open big enough for a whole dog to be standing inside. This dog WAS NOT treeing up, he was about 6 inches going face to face with the opposum, He WAS barking at the opposum, NOT on coon scent. It was not my dog, but the owner cut the opposum open, and beat the daylights out of the dog with it. We all wonder about these VERY high scores and when they plus opposums, i could see why scores can get high. I know the rule says both in 1 tree, plussed, BUT there is also a rule that says minus. Do we forget that rule. I would bet MOST people would not plus there dog if this happened. If they did, they would also be influenced to plus other things also, i think. Let your conscience be your guide!!!

Give the dog what he HONESTLY deserves, and may the best dog win.

plotts
would i whip a dog for baying a possum in the bottom of a tree with a coon in the top?
geesh man,id go off on him like......well never mind.

heck lets throw common sense out the window.if we can read the rules so we can plus this possum, yeehaaa let the games begin.

now dont tell me i cant score on a dead coon.the rules dont say it has to be a live coon.heck my dog has an unbelievable nose.common sense used to tell us the dog didnt tree that dead coon, but heck we threw ol common sense out the window.

oh man i could go on and on but id better use a little common sense and shut up now.lol lol

i feel a 2500 plus point cast win commin on.lmao

Hey E, what I want to know is, if your dog has a coon in the top of tree and a possum in the same tree about 20 feet up, your gonna beat your dog for this. A couple of years ago I had this happen. Coon in top and possum just a little ways underneath. How do you beat a dog if you don't know for sure. If they are right you just screwed up and don't realize it.

Posted by hershberger on 10-28-2003 04:42 AM:

plotts: You are missing the point. No we wont beat a dog if both are up the tree, but when they are 1 foot away from thre possum and barking like crazy AT IT,that is different. If you pet your dog in that scenario, then you are, ahh, forget it. Remember the post said the opposum WAS NOT UP a tree, it was sitting on the ground inside the hollow trunk.DUHHH

show me in the rules where it says a dog can bay an animal other than a coon and get plussed. merlin clearly stated dog was face to face barking at the possum not treed with a possum and a coon both in the tree.... now the last time i checked big game hunters call it bayed when there dogs are face to face with their quarry and it is called treed when the animal is in a place above the dogs such as a tree, telephone pole, barn rafters or any other place where the dogs are under their quarry. if my dog is face to face with a grinner minus minus minus if he is treed with a possum and a coon then plus plus plus. whether or not there is a common sense rule or not and whether you write the rules or clarify them baying face to face with off game is the same as molesting off game hence act like the sportsman you all say you are and take your minus or scrath however the cast maybe.
if your gonna plus a dog for being face to face with a possum then ya might as well plus any animal these COONDOGS can smell, bay and or tree.
last time i checked our sport was called competition coon hunting not competiton get hooked with some animal over, under or in the area close to ya to score plus
