why do you think that they give the dogs a "grace period" for babbling???? why?????? not just a few barks but a whole minute............
why do you think that the hunts are set up so that the two very worst things a dog can do is change there mind and leave a tree or tree a possom????? But yet all the slick trees in the world wont hurt a dog a bit.......... just circle em.......
think on these things and you'll see. The competition hunts are for walker dogs. Period.
Now, its got to the point that the walker boys have so much power and influence that they have ukc and pkc competeing against each other to see who can accomodate and serve the walker dogs and there owners even more. Heck, in pkc you dont even have to see a single coon to have a cast winner.
So now, with all that being said, its easy to see why about 75% to 85% of all the breeders of all these other non-walker dogs are doing there very best to breed for a dog that is just your typical walker dog. It all makes sense if you think about it.

There isn't a certain breed that babbles or slick trees. Every breed has slick treeing idiots. It's what you prefer to hunt. As long as the person that owns the dog is happy then don't put them down for what they own. Sheep you always think that the only dog that babbles and slick trees are walker and your wrong!!!!!!

ELVIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! well hello there ole buddy. Fancy seeing you again. Look partner, its like this. You are a walker man. Thru and thru. Theres no point in me trying to explain all this to you. Were on two different sides of the fence. You know it and I know it. We speak two different languages when it comes to these dogs and most importantly we HUNT in two totally different WORLDS. I have decided to be civilized to you on this one for two different reasons. Number one is its just the right thing to do. And number two is you have been unusally kind and patient towards me the last few weeks. But we gotta face facts elvis, the chances of you and me seeing eye to eye on this or even understanding each other on this is slim to none.
WOW HUMPY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I CANT HARDLY BELEIVE YOU AGREED WITH ME ON SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sheep
i do not own a dog of any breed.

sorry T. if I wasnt "adult like" enough to suit ya. I dont think I'm all that negative like most think, I just speak my mind on sensitive subjects and usually I'm in the vast minority. That usually causes a big fuss.
No Sheep
you are the one of the people who bad mouth certain breeds. Very well put T. Beyer.

Sheep that last part wasn't aimed at you, just all of us in general. I mean as long as people can make generalized statements towards hounds, can't we do the same for us forumites?
The first part was aimed at you bud, think about the difference you could make at your local club, just go be a good sport in spite of those who may or may not be doing the same.

I agree with T.Beyer. We all should act more like adults on here. However I am still confused as to why it seems like it is Walker people versus the world, or even Feeder bucket vs. Non Feeder bucket people. Why can't someone speak their opinion and be heard, not belittled? If someone is acting a fool why can't we ignore that person and let the thread live on, instead of changing the topic of the thread?
Back to the original question, do you all think it is the competition hunts that have brought the "Walkers vs. the World" mentality on?

look at the thread "whos gonna win the superbowl" everybody does not/will not/can not agree on everything/anything. I hunt blueticks but relize it is much easier to get a good walker then all other breeds combined.....period, now on the other hand I can drive south to Ft. Towson, Oklahoma and pick me out a bluetick puppy anytime I get ready that more then likelly can compete with any dog of any color ANYWHERE at ANYTIME BAR-NONE.

It all depends on what you call "good". Everyones opinion of "good" is different. However, for most folks a good dog is one that would do well in competition hunts. The vast majority of coonhunters today feel this way. Thus, thats what people are breeding for and trying to find. Heres a good example of what I mean. About 6 years ago I was "GAVE" a dog by a very good friend of mine. He knew I would like her and we were friends so he gave me the dog. I have described her on here plenty but to make a long story short she has both faults and good points about her. On the negative side she is weak mouthed, doesnt chop on tree (bawls), does not have a very immidiate, distinct changover, takes her time locating a tree, trees possoms. On the positive side she is good natured, fast on track, accurate on tree, and treed me probably 500 or 600 coons with NO FEEDER BUCKETS. She is solely responsible for a WHOLE BUNCH of enjoyable pleasure hunts with me and my buddies. Now, I acquired a walker dog which I GAVE AWAY a few years ago. He was LOUD MOUTHED, HUNTED HARD, BAWLED ON TRACK, CHOPPED ON TREE, TREED 120 BARKS A MINUTE AND NEVER SHUT UP, VERY STEADY CHOP. He also had meat in about 1 out of every 20 trees he treed on. This is in the winter with the leaves off too. You could whup him and he'd go about another 30 or 50 yards and locate the tree like he was looking at the coon and tree 120 barks a minute again and he'd be wrong again and he'd do that all night long if you wanted to keep turning him loose. I gave him away. I hear the guy that has him now loves him. Its all in what you call good.
Dogs
You have to be an idiot to believe that walkers are the only dogs that slick tree.

waste'en your time sheep
quote:********I deleted most of sheepsters post. Sheepster, Im not gonna get on you anymore for your post but if your trying to tell me what a good dog is your wasteing your time. from the way you describe your hound I would not own her, I expect a dog to go get under a COON 90% of the time I cut them lose and it makes no diff. where I am. The very beg. of your post you said good is diff. in every one's opinion...what did my post say ?? also I could care less if a hound has grnite or nite in front of its name. I go to comp/ hunts if their close because I made a promise to my hounds sire's owner that I'd put a hunt title on them if they were capable, they both are so I'll do as I said. Now nite ch. will be good enough for me, if he wants them granded out he can come get them and has said he would. believe it or not, there are dogs out their that are COONDAWGS IN ANY MANS BOOK !!!
