I was in the mood to resurect an old topic....one that is near and dear to my heart.

Seems like there are still several folks on here that are hunting Whitey dogs, there are several folks that have questions about Clover bred dogs....let's unite and talk Clover Dogs...

Keep it real, and keep it alive!~

I like um ugly

Joe, I owned a gntch direct off Sackett Jr. and a Wild Casey female who was a awsome hound up untill his death last yr. Ive hunted with a lot of Sackett dogs like them but he was special Loud, get deep, by himself with the coon. I now own a double Clover dog probley the ugliest thing to hit the woods but she has become a coon dog in the past 6mths quick, gets them up close or deep and have the meat, she a fun dog to hunt ,handles good ,have not hade any trash problems in months. Also she is winning 75% of the PKC cast shes been in. In the past couple months she has mixed in some long bawls with her chop on the tracks she a tough female who will be a PKC Champion by the fall SS. Thanks for getting her to N.C. If you have any more like her let me know .one of my handlers loves her and wants another ugly hound in the kennels. Thanks Mike Cayton Timberlake Kennels

Mike,

You'll soon figure out that it's not how pretty a dog is that put's coon in the tree.

If I had heard those bawls....you would not likely own her. I get a few chop mouth track dogs out of the female that she's out of....

I've got several here....and most all of them are ugly as sin...

Give me a call, and I'm sure I can get another to NC.... Oh..and she's not that ugly....

My lord Joe I thought you'd flat out fell off the face of the earth. I ain't heard from you in over 6 months.
I'm going to pick up a couple Double Whitey pups off of Ox this weekend. They're ugly enough alright. The dam had that same style of mouth I've heard from those Oak Ridge dogs. I'm hoping the little female I'm keeping makes a good one.
I'm thinking about selling off the others and strictly keeping and starting Ox pups.
Those last few litters of Cube pups should be crankin' about now! We need some reports on them!
I've had a couple folks ask me if Cube had bred any females recently but I hadn't heard from you in so long I couldn't give an answer. Looks like Tammy has been making some noise with him in the AKC hunts.

Hey Brogy! I have also fell off the map so to speak, dunno if anyone missed me. My 4 year old off Joker will be hitting the woods this weekend, he has been laid up due to our quiet season since April, but with our loop holes in the law now and my busy time at work nearly past, I can hunt again!

I've been laying low myself. Hunting when I feel like it instead hunting because I feel like I have to.
I went out tonight for a couple drops with Ox and an Ox pup I'm just starting. Pup ain't quite ready yet but he's learning to stumble around in the dark. Made a couple trees and seen coon in each and headed for the house.

Carl I saw this post and assumed it was Joe that brought it back to the top. Maybe I was wrong.

I've known Joe for nearly 7 years. He's been a friend to me in the coonhound world when I needed one. I have never done business with him so I can't comment on that. I've heard things as well but in my dealings with Joe he has always treated me right. Joe gave me the priviledge of taking Oak Ridge Clover Cubed home with me for 3 months a few years back. At that point, Joe and I had only met in person once or twice, but had communicated over the phone and over the internet several times. I am forever grateful for the opportunity because it opened me up to experience the Whitey dogs, a Clover line that I had very little experience with. Since then I've gone down and hunted with Joe and hunted with Thorn, Cube, and a couple other Joker dogs. Each one was just as he described them.
Joe Newlin, much like myself, is a very opinionated and outspoken person. I know first hand that can rub some folks the wrong way.
I've always enjoyed Joe's candor and out of the box style of thinking.
Again, Cube is everything anyone has read on here about him. He is a blast to hunt and has more heart than nearly any hound I've been to the woods with. He isn't perfect but he's the type of dog that even when he screws up it sure is hard to stay mad at him very long.
Joe's Oak Ridge dogs aren't the only source of Whitey dogs, but since my experience with Joe's dogs, I can pick out a Whitey dog when I draw one, see one or hear one.
This thread ain't about Joe. Its about Whitey dogs and WHITEY DOGS ROCK!

I have purchased 4 dogs that came through Joe's Kennels. 2 pups, one older started dog, and one dog that he recommended to me that the price was right one.

The older started dog was for a friend, the two pips and the single dog were all for me. I currently have nearly 4 year old off Joker and Powder. VERY SATISFIED! Joe is a stand up guy, have spent quite a few nights in the woods with him, here in Michigan and there in Indiana. I am glad to call him friend, and when it is time for another, I know right where to go...Silver Lake Indiana. You won't ever deal with a better fella, and man he has some nice hounds.

Tammy makes a killer Peanut Butter Cake too...!

I'll answer all the questions I can that have been posted.

First, no....I'm not dead. The past year or so has been a whirlwind. The company that I worked for for the past 15 years was bought out, and it didn't take long for me to find out that my job was being shipped overseas to India. That meant that the money tree quit blooming, and I had to cut back on many of my "luxury" activities. It also meant that I had almost instant "money troubles". Pretty sure that I'm past the worst of those.....but it's still no picnic.

I made the decision that I had spent my entire adult life making other people money while employed by them, so I left the comfort of Indiana and went on the road to take some training...I was "off the grid" for a number of months. I learned a lot and upon my return to home, I've been working at starting my own business. I know...I'm crazy trying to start a business in this economy...but hey, I'm broke anyway.

Bottom line, I've been busy enough that I've not really been spending much time on this web site....and haven't been hunting anywhere near like I have in the past.

As for rubbing folks the wrong way...well...dang it, never set out to do that, but I guess I've always been the kind of guy that "if you don't want to know....don't ask"...cause if you ask, I'll tell you exactly what I think on the subject. Opinionated...you bet....but I've earned the right to be opinionated over the past 43 years of coon hunting and raising dogs.

I still have Cube, and he will spend his entire life here. He gets bred three or four times a year...and I guess that is fine with me. I've never made one thin dime raising dogs, actually it costs me several thousand dollars every year. It makes it tough to continue when the money tree is not blooming, but I have a litter due next week, and Cube is in with a little double River Bend Flag bred female as I type this. He still trees coon every time I take him out....and he still wins in competition way more than he loses. And he is still one of the most enjoyable dogs to own and hunt that I've ever seen.

I have a pair of Cube pups that just turned a year old. The little male is going to make a dog, and the female may just have what it takes to make that "extra special" dog that we all look for. I'm not hunting enough right now to make a firm decision about either one of them.

As for the Uplinger's Joe female...no, she twisted a gut after weaning the last litter and she died suddenly and unexpectedly. Quite a loss, but I have a pair of pups out of that litter. I've had some trouble with the paperwork on them since she died, but have that worked out...and will get those pups going here before long. The female is a nice little dog, but the little male is a fireball!

If I've offended someone, well, I didn't mean too...I would hope that you would forgive me for that.
