how is the Jake dog bred? Also, on Blue Music Freeze, he has been dead for several years...he got a respiratory infection, and he never got over it...he was bred right...I was plannin on gettin a pup out of him when he died, but then the pups werent for sale....its too bad....
Hey Matt, didn't that guy who had Moony down in Texas have a male off of Chief??
No
it was out of a bitch out of Chief x Leary....I got a littermate to snowman back today, big ole sucker....not started at all....Snowman is startin to shine...
Craig Edwards,
I have Trapper bred again to Bell. She is about 5 weeks along and sure does look full of pups right now. Again I will keep you updated as the litter comes to term and I see what I got.
The 2 out of the Wilmoths Cold Blus Steel female are doing great and growing like weeds.

jim,
spyder is in missouri, lionel charles own him, i have a female off spyder, she can tree a coon but i dont plan at this time to breed anything i have to him. there is a goodbit of hearsay that he is throwing nice dogs. the only one of note that i know of, is the gr nt smokey river john dog, he died early, the fellas that owned him out in wisconsin sure spoke highly of him. he was off the murphys bonnie female, does anyone know what became of this female?

Cheif
I have to believe if in fact he was the sire of all the hounds that say they are from him he did his fair share of reproducing. However I had a female here from him that you couldn't hear bark across the yard. Other people have owned hounds from him in this area that lived a short life span. A lot of dogs from him had to many different traits making me think that something was going on in this breeding program.

What traits
Should you see in a cheif dog that would destinguise it from others? should it have a special look? A certain kind of mouth ? I don't know what i should expect to see from his line

Bum is no more than a mile from my house. I live in Southeast Oklahoma. He is a real good looking hound that did'nt get the recognition he should have. I have seen good ones and bad ones out of him, as you will in all studs. He does'nt through a very big dog on average, he does through a good mouth, good color, and early starters. He was the kind of dog to be by himself 90% of the time, and he would get deap and get under a coon. His faults in my opinion is that he was a little too silent on track, and he chewed at the tree, but a coon dog second to none.

quote:First off if considering a Cheif offspring you will find after Hammer, Jet, Spanky was added to this bloodline these hounds started to show up as being some good dogs and this is not intended to take anything from the foundation blood of the Great S.R Diamond Jim. After the Blood of the only Blue dog to win the AKC World Hunt Coz's Spare Time Spanky and the blood of the Hammer Jet dogs this bringing back the oldest and best Hammer blood through Spanky and the Hammer Jet line then old Cheif carring the Blood of Hammers ...Hammer, Hammer II. and Hammer III. this added to the old Smokey River line that had been around for years without hardly any success of a stud dog until Chief then when Spanky Jet Hammer was added this line got noticed and the rest is history

John, i humbly disagree, i am more than partial to the spanky cross on chief but he was well known as a top reproducer before these crosses,Dual grand smokey river chiefs HOSS and nt ch smokey river chiefs JAZZ,as you know Hoss placed second in the world in 92 and jazz was world champion bluetick female in 93 being littermates out of a linebred smokey river female albiet with spud up close as well as Diamond jim. This was one of chiefs first litter and after '92 folks started taking there females too him, fly was not bred until '93 which further opened eyes.Besides the fly cross, the one on gr nt ch amelings misty would have to be another that made history, misty being out of kirbys spike.
Chief dogs are noted for being go yonder type of hound that are fairly independant and also being exceptional treedogs as a rule, of course there are exceptions.the fly cross (bullet) further put the tree in them and i beleive another level of intelligence, also Bullet was an outstanding locater, he could sure tree a old ,cold laid up coon and was a lightening quick treedog, he definetly passed on this trait.i by no means an expert but this is what i have personally seen. Also i would like to add that every stud dog i seen advertised out of chief was DNA-VIP.
Despite all faults that warren may have had he was not kennel blind which is more than can be said for some of the other strains mentioned on this board.
JV
Are you a politician, because that was a lot words full of BS that never really made valid a point
Anybody but JV
What kind of mouths did chief put into his pups? Also, did he throw larger than average dogs, long legs, big head, etc. How about grand pups of chief, can you see some of his traits in those dogs. There sure is quite a list of grandsons and granddaughters that have made better than average dogs.
John V.
I also have a ?? how many times is hammer in their and how many times is old jim in there ?? so is he diamond jim bred or hammer bred.

Chief dogs
from the handful I have seen, he put a lot of cream trim in his offspring, along with that big blocky head, and just a 'look' that he passed on, you would just have to see to understand....Bum had a big good mouth, as does geronimo, I had a bitch out of him that had a big male dog mouth...Bullet was 75lbs, Dancer was a 100 lb. hound, Geronimo is a big dog, Bum was medium size, maybe 70lbs, the bitch I had was about 60lbs, it seems chief produced medium to large dogs, edging towards large dogs more...
No Show, Cheif had Hammer III once, and Diamond Jim 3 times...but you are beatin a dead horse here....
Matt
I know, but he wont never bury it so there will allways be someone like me to give'em he!!.

Chief was the worst back trackin dog I ever seen. Put mouths like hoot owls in his pups. Whoooo, Whooo, Whooo. Barely hear em in a four dog cast.

Does anyone know how many times smokey river chiefs jazz was bred, and to who?
Blue Style, Jake is out of Chief, and Hunting Crk. BLue Kari. He is a litter mate to Trapper. Kari was out of Gr.Nt.Ch. HIlls Ark.Blue, and Hills Blue Tiny. Kari was one of the best females I ever hunted with. She was independent, had a good nose, and a stay put tree dog. Both Jake and Trapper have reproduced top hounds. Neither one of them was advertised agressively; However, Trapper did make the top ten reproducing list at one time.
Lon Ears, thanks for the info. I sure want one of the pups if they are not all spoken for. I found a female out of Trapper, and Bell that was a litter mate to the male I lost. There may be females that tree as hard, but I have never hunted with one that treed harder. Good luck with your hounds. Sounds like you have a good thing going.

I sure don't want to get an arguement started, but one thing I have noticed about these hounds after the hammer blood was introduced, was that you would get a silent trailer now and then. DryFork Blue Spud throwed one in just about every litter. I owned Smokey River Blue Spud, and he would throw one in about every litter. I can't speak from experience on the Hammer dogs, because I only owned a few, but I have hunted Smokey River dogs for a long, long time. I never saw, or hunted with a silent dog out of D.J., or Sage, or their offspring until the Hammer blood was added. Myself, I have tried to go back to the basics. I am not saying where it came from, but when the two strains were mixed, it happened.

Thanks Smokin Guns.I knew about Mad Dog Banging Blue Spanky,Jet V,and maybe Coz Spare Time Spanky, but didn't realize she had been bred to the other three.
I seen there is a gr nt out of spud semen, there is something to keep your eye on also.we got a couple females here i am kicking around A I ing, spud and Hoss are strong possibilities.
Craig
This litter out of Trapper and Belle is due in 3 weeks. I will keep you updated as time gets nearer. I Preg tested her and she is pregnant this time. I am keeping my fingers crossed. She is getting huge too, so I hope I can get a decent litter. I am very excited. The pups I got out of Trapper and my Steel female are growing like weeds and getting into and out of everything. And I just bred another Steel female to him 2 weeks ago. I should have Trapper back n the reproducers list very soon.

Long Ears,
I hope she does well. I don't know how many you will have for sale, but anyone that likes Smokey River breeding, and likes hard tree dogs, that hunt hard with good noses, need to contact you.
I have had experiences with four from this cross, and all of them were early starters, and made coon dogs. I can tell anyone that is not serious about going hunting, you don't want to unleash one of these hounds, because they are serious. Keep in touch.
The same man that made the cross between Smokey River Blue Spud X Smokey River Be's Blue Jean that produced Clear River Curlee, and Jeans Blue Tramp, and Jeans Blue June, Jeans Blue Leary,( an all grand litter) made the cross that produced Fred, and Bell, the mother of these pups. I introduced Dennis to this man, and took him up there for the first time. His name is Leon Handy. Leon called me, and told me about this litter, and told me about their breeding. I called Dennis Shepherd, and told him about these pups. Dennis wasted no time. He went up there and bought the entire litter, except for a couple of pups. Bell and Fred were as natural as coondogs can possibly be.
Right now I own a female out of this cross, and another female (Nippet) that is out of a male from this cross. I owned Smokey River Blue Spud, Jeans Blue Tramp, and Smokey River Blue Jake, and a few others that no one ever heard about that were descent dogs, but Nippet is my favorite all around dog. She may not the best I've ever owned, just my favorite. She is the hardest treeing bluetick that I have ever owned. She is not perfect by a long ways, but I like her, and she likes me. She told me she did!lol
I'm not trying to brag on my dogs, because I really don't have anything to brag about. I'm just trying to say, I like this line of hounds. You get the picture. Whe-w-w-w-w-w-w--w. I'm done.
