so my dog has to open on track for a standard?

so if i want to enter my pup in a hunt shes ganna have to open up or shes ganna get scratched?

how many dogs are in each cast?

To me it don't make sense. If a dog don't open but is running the coon that dog gets scratched but if the other dogs follow that dog and open up they don't. All they are doing is treeing with the silent dog

Is that what you do? How do YOU do that???

If you have a young pup here that doesn't quite have it together yet you may be a little to soon for the hunts. May need more time in the woods first.
Don't let us discourage you from trying the hunts when you think you're ready.

the standards in hounds are they are to be open trailers. if they are silent they don't meet standards. I think its a misunderstood rule myself. i have hunted with many dogs that were very very tight on the ground, but they were excellent coon treeing machines. i personally prefer a tight mouth dog. i hunt treeing curs that are tight on ground for the most part. but NOT one of my dogs are totally silent on coon.

shes far from being ready for hunts. but when i do drags or turn a coon out for her the only time she barks is on the tree.

While all the free barkers are cutting loose. Just jump in there and strike em. A lot of folks hunt loose mouthed dogs. You better believe they ain't scared to jump on that 100

Mleck, if your dog only opens locating and treeing she is silent on track, she should be scratched for being silent.

So if she has her head in the air and moves a 50-100 yards standing on her hind legs locating with a long drawn out bawl are you going to consider her treed and not minus her or tracking and minus her?

If you are close you will ealize she is moving while locating which tree to tree on but if you are a half mile away you will neverf be able to tell she is moving. This little dog locates with 2-5 long locates and 100+ treeing. There will be some struggle before she gets scratched I assure you.

If you haven't ever seen a dog through their head in the air using the wind currents, locating with long bawl and walking on their hind legs for 20-100 yards then you have never had a dog tree a coon without staddeling a track and has no lay up ability.

ya never know how they will turn out i have a 4 year old female walker that never openned on track till she was 3 she just fell treed up till then now opens like clock work go figure i have owned her since she was 4 months old and thought i had a silent one

I'm new to all of this but a coon up a tree is a coon in a tree if you do not like a silent track dog. Tell me y When i was a kid hunting we looking for them

Been hunting point hunts for 20 yrs and have yet to see anybody scratched for remaining silent on trail .JMO but its impossible to proove. It would be more of a coontreeing contest if you do away with the strike points and split all the tree points equally with the dogs that are treed on the same tree this would reward the hounds that get to themselves

not working as part of cast is another scratchable thing that never happens i don't like silent dogs or a dog that won't honor another dog or a trashy one but have owned many of each over the years lol

Some of these rules arnt right. If my dog don't open on track but trees she gets scratched but if the other dogs open and tree with my dog they dont

USING THE WIND FROM 100 YARDS IS NOT LOCATING, JUST AS EVERY LONG BAWL IS NOT LOCATING!!! LOCATING IS SAYING "I FOUND THE TREE"!!! I'VE HAD BAWL MOUTH TREE DOGS THAT ALWAYS SOUND THE SAME EVEN IF TREED FOR AWHILE!!! TRY CONVINCING A JUDGE FROM 100 YARDS THAT A DOG IS SHOWING THE TREE!!! A DOG USING THE WIND FROM 100 YARDS IS STILL TRAILING EVEN THOUGH THE SCENT TRAIL IS IN THE AIR, NOT ON THE GROUND!!!

That is exactly what I was looking for the dog is opening on a trail not on a tree as it works it wat through the air but if you were a half mile away people would argue the fact. Thanks for the reply.
