Yes I understand what you are saying and thanks to all for your imput on helping me with her. If anyone is with in a hour or two of me that has a good dog that would let me bring my dog along to hunt with I would love to do that just to see if it helps or not. Maybe if someone else that's been doing this for awhile might be able to shed some light on what is the problem or if its a waste of time.

Hunt the hair off her for 60 nights.Start now. Hunt her alone and twice a week with a broke dog. Then let us know what's happening. Id bet nobody has really fooled with her. Once they saw her milling. They shipped her on. Good luck.

BTT

Just out of curiousity ,,have her ears checked by a Vet,,i've seen a few throught the years that had ear troubles and wouldn't bark up,,ran track but when it came time to tree ,,noway,,one dog was one i owned the hair in side of its ears was tickleing the ear drum so the dog wouldn't tree. Vet went to work on it,,took him home and in a few days the dog was treeing . Don't just give up yet .

All I know is that all the track in the world aint worth a handfull of spit if it dont tree........

no she will tree and stand up on the tree with no trouble as long as she has another dog to get her to lock on. like some others said seems to be not sure of her self sometimes.

Posted by chuck west on 04-17-2012 04:34 PM:

Then it sounds like she was roughed up on the tree by another dog or was by herself and coyotes almost got her .

Track

What Good are they if they wont trail ?
I mean its ok to have breaks but half the fun is hearing a good trail jump run and tree. Too much trail could mean a number of things... i.e, trashy, Stupid, or somthing wont let him stay @ the tree when he gets there, so he moves on or goes Backwards.
you gota figure alot into it when a dog wont do what his natural tendency should be ... jmop

MEAN COON

If I was a bettin man, which I am not, she bit off more than she could chew ! Same reason a blue million other dogs have been ruined! Don't send a boy to do a mans job!!!!!!! That's why I told you in the other post I put on here, Make sure the dog wins every time!!! Confidence is her problem {lack of}!!! Thats why she does better with other dogs. There are no 5 min. fixes! I've seen on the other posts saying your dog is DUMB, I beg to differ. You have a smart dog, so you are going to have to be careful. Good luck!!!

i never said she was dumb, she is the complete opposite of that. she will do what ever she can get away with and she knows it. i know its not a 5 min fix.trust me i have been trying to get her figured out for awhile now. well tomaro night im gonna take her out by her self with no other dogs and see what happens. i dont expect her to come around over night, im willing to give her the time she needs even though it can be frusrating sometimes.

I have one now that that just ran around and boo hooed for seemed like forever. She would not get treed at all for weeks at a time. I never gave up on her and she started clicking. Can flat smoke a track now and get treed with the coon. A slick tree is very rare and she is kind of getting boring to pleasure hunt because I know when she gets treed what the outcome is going to be. She was so bad in the beginning I would take a lawn chair hunting and just sit.

that sounds like mine when she by her self. How long would you let her mess around back and forth on a track before you would move her on to some other place.

Posted by ONEDOGNIGHT on 04-18-2012 01:16 AM:

After I started getting pissed about it I sat a one hour limit. I was not working at the time and would move on to next drop. Some nights she would tree a coon I guess a easy one and then boo hoo the track. Never did hunt her with any other dog and just kept on doing this night after night. She is now 3y/o and has been treeing coon like no other.

Posted by walker1978 on 04-18-2012 01:28 AM:

Well the way I work I can't hunt every night but can hunt two on and two off. That's just how my work is. If she gets to the end of a track or where just starts her back and forth deal I usally give her about a half hour or so then I move on to the next drop. I fugure if she can't getit start in that amont of time then its time to move on.

well I hope so. So far so good on that. When she does tree its always there. She impressed me one night when another dog treed and it was a slick no ? About. She wouldn't even look at that tree. And went off and did find a coon. I thought that night was gonna be a big turning piont for her.

I believe Barrys advice was right on, have patience and remember you can't teach experience. After a lot of nights in the woods I think you will be rewarded with a very nice hound.

well had a pretty good night out with my dog , she started out slow but did get going after i talked to her a little. she ened up getting treed on her own, well if you want to call it that. track ended at a big old hemlock tre that got twisted up into a bunch of other trees from a tornado that went threw last year. she stayed there till i got to her so i tied her back and started to look for mr. coon but the way that mess was he could have went 50 yards or so from tree to tree and never touched the ground. i looked the best i could but when your in a mess like that with hemlock trees usally you cant see nothing. i made her stay there the whole time and she was treeing ever min. of it. so after about 30 min i got her and took her around were it looked like the coon could have went on to but she ended up back to were she was treeing so i left her tree some more and looked around again. but no luck so i moved her on. im just glad she stayed at the tree till i got there. i didnt prase her up to much but at lest she stayed there. was that wrong for me to let her tree that long cause i couldnt find the coon? the way that mess was i figured she tracked it to there and it just knew how to get way threw all that mess.i think she did a good job so ill give her credit for that one.

trail to much

Weather we want to admit it or not some dogs aren't as smart as others, you cant blame every thing on the handlers as some like to do! And neither can you blame every thing on the dog. most dogs of every kind just want to please there master, but you have to know Dogs have a brain just like Humans and just like humans some will have brain defects. if you cant except that in the end you will spend a lot of wasted time chasing mental cases..

One thing your doing is creating another problem. Letting her go back to all these trees. I know you can't whip her cause your wanting her to stay but after the tree. Id load up and move to the next dump.

that thought did cross my mind. She didn't go back the second time until she made a loop around all the trees that were laying down in that mess. I just wanted to make sure she didn't pull up short. And the coon maybe bailing out 30yds or so away on the other side of the hemlock trees. She went back to the tree on the same track she took it in there first. That's one reson I like my garmin cause I can see where she's been allready. If I missed finding it in there I don't think she's wrong for wanting to go there. If I see the coon I would never let her go back to the same tree. I make sure I leed her far enough away.
