well started dog should be able to tree its own coon most of the time. a dog that with boot leather that can be easily finished into a broke coon dog. i've tried many well started dogs that weren't even close. guess folks who put a well started price on a dog figure it must be so. i think most don't have a clue or are a bit crooked. it'd be nice if folks were honest.

Also, a finnished dog should still have four or five years left in him at the top of his game before he starts slowing down. I think a finnished dog to some people means he's finnished as a coon dog. LOL

If I was a comp hunter I would expect to pay top dollar for a well started dog , polish him up some, and put some titles on him, and get all the credit for it.
If I was like me, not a comp hunter, That has to train around the gators , I would pay decent for a pup that is just started, not well started. All I would be buying is age and the feed that got him that old, also the fact that I don't see any serious flaws in him , such as treeing butterflies up a swithcane. and has some "want to" in him.

And I agree with most of ya'll. A pup yapping at a cage cone is not started yet.

I'll never forget the words I heard from a fellow that was not even a coon hunter but was out with us none night when the young dogs worked a track about 30 minutes and lost it. He said, "Started, farted, stumbled and fell".
