honestly if you like your english dogs i'd stick with em...another dog of a different bloodline or a different breed is likely to hunt and handle totally different than what you like...could be for better or for worse....myself, im a walker guy...ive competition hunted against everything else but a leopard hound...the only dogs that ive never been beat by has been a B&t and plott...im sure there are gooduns out there...and when a redbone, english or blue dog won the cast, it still wasnt FOR ME...thye might have scored the highest that nite...but, just didnt hunt and handle like i like...where as more walkers suit me..but, i was raised on runnin walker dogs...
also, have you totally thought through having a dog while at school??? i did a ton of hunting and fishing through college...probably more than i'll get to do till im retired...but, no way i coulda had a coon dog at school....

Hey, l.lyle, It took you 10 years to get your BS degree but you are sure getting good use out of it on here.LOL! JK.

This is just my opinion and don't be offended CP. Ole Miss and football need to be at the top of the list. You can hunt with me (IF) you have any free time. I will take care of the dogs and you can take care of the touch downs and the books.

I have narrowed it down to either Black snd Tan or a Leopard Hound. I have never owned or hunted with either one. So i would like to know which would you all choose and why?

By the way like an idiot I quit half way threw the nineth grade. Take it from someone that learned the hard way. There is nothing but HOT SUMMERS,COLD WINTERS AND HARD WORK with out an education. The older you get the harder the hot and cold is on your body too.

If you are going to college I would highly recommend you get a Lep. Ours lives in the house and is the best house dog I have ever had. I grew up with all different kinds of house dogs and this one is way smarter and better mannered than any of them. And he is one heck of a coondog at the same time. I know that college is probablly gonna involve living in a town and a hound in a pen in a college town is probably a recipe for disaster. Wouldn't you rather have a dog that can be a great pet during the week and then take hinting on the weekend. Besides don't underestimate the Babe magnetism of a unique merle colored dog. Chicks love Leps!
