Nope, they don't hunt. I quit hunting a long time ago. My husband hunts, but he has always hunted another bloodline. The hounds we have hunted off of what are considered "show lines", either won't hunt or can't compete in the environment down here. The Mundar Rick dog hunts, but never was comp hunted.
IMO a lot of the "hunting lines" need some major improvements to mirror what a true coonhound is. In so many ways.

When you hit the big ones it's a beauty contest. I never worry about scars but have had broken toes and dogs hit in the road. Some were killed and a couple others just never were as right as they used to be.
Many are crazy about their dogs but could care less about hunting .
Just have to do what you do and same for everybody else. No matter which somebody will tell you it's not right.

Most show dog lines won't hunt or will just barely. Reason why many don't get hunted.

And YES I said it.

most hunt dogs want hunt its just what ever your satisfied with.
i watch a guy for 30 yrs win both ways he didnt have know problems
get them to go.

What I don't understand is that folks think a dog HAS to have a hunt title in order for it to be able to hunt. I pleasure hunt, never have cared to comp hunt, just my decision, I do enjoy showing my hounds. I have a really nice little female that we have had tons of fun hunting with, BUT she has NO title, doesn't mean she can't hunt just means I didn't WANT to comp hunt. I give ALL my dogs a chance in the woods and its for my pleasure............... At the end of the day I feed them and all they have to do is please me.

thank you stacey for answering my ? the only reson i ask you if you hunted them was because with the titles you have on them you must really do a lot with them to get to that level. wasnt trying to take away from that at all just making the point that the ones that do win like that most of the time are not hunted. not saying that they cant or wont just that it not that common. with those titles you have if you did hunt them as much as you showed them i would asume they would be grnitech as well. so i do think the ones that win the big shows are not hunt normally of one reason or the other witch does kinda seperate the breed a little. im sure you spend enough time working with them on the bench that if you were to hunt them as well you wouldnt have much time for anything else. i hunt mine and show mine both but if i hade a world beater on the bench i would problely not hunt her. same goes for in hunting end of it , if she had what it took to win the world i would stick to that side of the sport. it just comes down to what a person wants to get out of this sport. and no i dont think they need hunt titles to be called hunting dogs. my hunting is all pleasure hunting. its still hunting wether you do it for comp. or just for fun.

There are a lot of people who show that just aren't able to hunt. Reasons vary, I'm not getting into that. But I will say that my partner is a compition hunter. Hunts the hunts all the time.

He'll be the first to tell you that dedicated show people are just that. Dedicated. The time involved in preparing for a show is way more then he ever imagined. Yes ..... He hates the shows. He goes and helps because he loves me. Those titles you see in front of Stacey's hounds names (and everyone elses you see here) are hard earned and well deserved. There's SEVERAL on here with some BIG titles that they don't show on their signatures as well. They too are well deserved.

Have fun with what you love. In this region of the country ~ the coon hound world is dying. Whatever you love to do, just do it so we can preserve this sport.

What is everyones thoughts?
