-- How about this Rule change (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=488878)

Posted by Cornbelt on 03-08-2012 03:40 PM:

I have no problem leaving it the way it is. However most of the casts with spectators now do allow the spectators to shine. Then I carry the card and it gets asked if the spectators can shine and I say no. Like Jim said now you are the scumbag who wouldn't let little Johnny help shine the trees.

As far as spectators chiming in with an opinion on what they see.... I don't see this as to big of a problem. I've never seen a spectator wear earplugs and most of the judging and scoring in a night hunt goes by what you hear so IMO drawing the line between shining and scoring would be an easy task.

The only reason I think it would be good to change it is because now most casts just ignore the rule.

Hey Allen

You know we would never get mad or jealous if some one else finds the coon other than the cast members. We pride ourselves on having fun and being honest in the hunts. But it is still the cast members that have to score the coon seen. As far as that bright lights go, I am not a believer in that. If there's a coon there I should find it. I just want to have fun and respect the rules. I think you know what we are after.

I know Dennis. Not much worried about your cast. Just thinking of the issues that would come up where Todd is involved.

You recon you might wind up with 4 cast members and 8 spectators in every cast. How many hunters would bring spectators just to help them shine? LOL.
I couldn't see it happening but I could see one whineing on here about it. ( :
The bright light thing I don't see either. I have the White lightening. They stare right at it. I never turn mine down to find eyes. If I have first tree I just crank it up and let every one do the same. Our timber isn't as tall as other places though.
I do think we should be able to squal from the start of shine time no matter what or were the other dogs are.
That may be one thing to slow the trend of the independant dogs.

not in favor of spectators shining tree , but i do think the squal time , last 3 minutes of shine time , needs to be extended to 5 mins. that gives a dog thats not treed in 10 mins to do his own thing , and i was on a hunt sat nite my dog was alone in a big white pine, noone would help sqaul and i about run myself to death tryin to cover every angle of tree before time was up , but i didin get it done tree closed no eyes.

Change the rule to read as long as all cast members agree. That way if a guy has a spectator with a two million candlepower you politely say that would rather not have spectators shining. But on the other hand if there is a kid spectator with a little kitten cooner let em have all the fun they want. Keep the first tree gets first two minutes of shine time if they want. This is such a common sense and simple thing. I am absolutely amazed that anybody would be against changing this rule as long as the above stipulations where in place to protect those who like the rule the way it is now.

Common since is differant to differant folks. I would want the guy with the two million candle power to shine. I wouldn't mind the kid with the kitten cooner at all BUT the brighter light might make a circle tree a tree you can score or slick.

I THINK IF YOU LET SPECTATORS SHINE THERE WOULD ALWAYS BE 4 TRUCKS IN EVERY CAST , THAT MAY BE OK IN SOME PARTS OF THE COUNTRY BUT WHERE I HUNT I DONT WANT A BUNCH OF TRUCKS BECAUSE THE LANDOWNERS START THINKING TWICE BEFOR GIVING PERMISSION,

I WOULD BE FOR ONLY 1 SPECTATOR PER HANDLER

I don't favor spectators shining but it should be noted that in all the many years I hunted the other KC's, which do allow spectators to shine, I have never seen a single instance where it was any kind of issue or problem. And have never seen a cast loaded up with extra spectators to get more lights in the tree. That just ain't gonna happen in the real world.
I'm against it because I don't think spectators should have ANY kind of direct involvement in the outcome of the hunt.

I don't care if they carry a car lot spotlight Myself. Id just take my alone time and find it before they could shine.
