grade dog
i have half english half walker in my kennel now he is a pretty good dog. not the best but he will get you lots of coon. my uncle has the same type dog in his kennel and i have seen his dog tree coon on the ouside consintal in 6 inches of snow. just because you like to coon hunt dont mean you have to enter any ukc events. my uncleis 57 been coon hunting since he was 14 has never had a papered dog and probaly never will. he likes to go out and listen to his dog figure out the track. not bashing anybodys titled dogs but its not everybodys cup of tea. just my 2 cents worth
just go to a hunt and count the garmins i always take extra collars in case some one in my cast wants to barrow one after all i have 4 have only loaned a collar a couple of times and never two. now there is a difference between rich and cheap most coonhunters are cheap imo just look at pup prices tells it all the best bred pup with huge paper trail brings nothing compared to many other breeds out there just because a guy has a homemde dog box means nothing if he has a garmin or tracker he is a rich coonhunter most poor coonhuters just dream about winning the big hunt and never go but do have top notch coondogs and papers means nothing to them

Jim believe this or not, but I don't have the money to drive one state over and compete in a hunt. Or travel all day to get a bitch bred to go yonder. I can't hardly afford the gas to go a couple nights out of the week. And i'm not the only one. It is a rich mans game. You have to spend alot of money before ever getting to the woods.

quote:Yeah especially when some of the guys at the club are disabled and or are drawing checks and can outwalk you anyday of the week to get to their dogs.100% of the guys at the clubs and events ARE the guys that can afford to go or will do anything not to miss the hunts, not 90%,LMAO!You never see the guys there that cant afford to go or put their family aside just to make a hunt.

Sob stories aside, the notion that you have to be rich or even wealthy to compete is just flat bogus and 90% of the people at the events will verify that.
