-- How Do You Do It... (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=486326)
I have scored over a thousand prob about 10 times in my life. The Highest score with Gr Nt Ch Windy Hills Dizzy with 1275 in the state of Iowa. But the most memorable one was at Autum Oaks with Gr Nt Ch Middle Creak Knot Head. We spent the first hour listening to a corn field race & finally Knot Head slipped out & treed. the second hour I accumalated total of 1100+ no minus no circle. was National Treeing Walker I didn't go to no waffle house either. There is going to be a coon there before my dog gets plus points. So I sit here & think if the first hour would have went like the second what kind of score would I have had? Oh yes I failed to mention the last hour was only 2 dogs left in the cast.
I live in a nice coon population.
1200 to 2000 points get scored like this.
Dog A B C D. Cut loose, one of them tree and all the other jump on the wagon real quick. Now it's already pre determined that a coon is getting plussed before shinning the tree.
Load them up and go somewhere else. Re peat process 8-10 times.
If one dog is causing trouble and not packing up with the other 3 scratch it for running a fox/deer.
There you have it directly from hoosier man on the recipe for a 1200-2000 plus point cast win

A phony score is a phony score weather its 900 or 1900.
Years ago everyone questioned anything over 900.
Im not about to defend the score of any cast Im not on and dont see, but Im not sure Im ready to disbelieve anything over a certain number either.
No doubt it takes some luck, and some guys seem to get more than their share of luck.

Bad decisions make good stories.
A few years ago I went to a hunt up here in ontario and only 5 dogs showed up. I drew the cast of 2 dogs. The other guy was guide and had some of the thickest coon id ever seen. his dog was very fast to get open and i took 2nd strike every drop but first tree with his dog fast to cover. No leaves on and coon were found almost instantly. they were treed so fast and close we were hardly using 5 mins per drop. After 70 mins he withdrew his dog which gave me 50 mins to hunt on my own. i know got some 1st strikes but had to wait the full 5 to go to tree so we burnt up a little more time. The last couple drops we were actually looking for area with big stretches of open feilds for dog to cross before the timber to burn up more time cause we didnt think anyone at the club would belive the score if it got any higher. ended up with 1925+.
My point is this was the perfect scenario to run up a huge score, and I dont know the situation in sum of these big hunts but I will never argue a huge score because I have seen under the right circumstances it is very possible and does happen.

There would be some serious follow the leader goin on to accomplish anything close to that. But thats about all u see in ukc anymore is a bunch of me tooin pack dogs that couldnt tree there own coon if they had to

Its sad to know that a 800-900 plus point cast win will pretty much get you nothing in these large events. And a 800 score IS NOT EASY let aone a 1200 or 1300 score. Like I said alot of guys pretty much plus every tree they walk to knowing that they have to beat 50 or 60 other dogs in their class.
I love how everyone says how easy it is yet they have never scored even close to that. I have been hunting in the hunts for some time now and drew some really nice dogs in UKC and PKC. Never seen a score over 1,000.
Once I see it a few times and see it done honestly I will be a believer.
I guided a cast of Nite Chs 2 weeks ago. 3 dog cast and all were packing the whole night. We hit 9 woods and I won it with 875 plus and 400 circle.
This time of year you better expect 1 out of 8 trees to be a den. 4 of the 5 coon we scored on were in dens. Females are moving very little.

Chuck, 266 hunted Friday and 239 hunted Saturday night at an event that took 1750 to win. That takes it out of the realm of being a skill event and turns it into nothing more than an all out crapshoot. If you feel lucky, take your best shot.
I have never been able to understand the attraction of these types of events but 500 and some coonhunters were attracted to it so there is something there that brings them in. Maybe it's just the camaraderie, the kind of thing that brings so many to the Kentucky Derby, they sure ain't all there for the horse race. Whatever it is, when it comes to a serious competition, it's gonna have to be a cast by cast elimination event for me or I'll pass. I'm just not much of a gambler.
These events are great for our sport simply because of the numbers they generate. As for the scores, who cares. Most of us weren't even there and the ones that were knew what they were involved in.

i have scored 1000+ one time, that was in early march in southern indiana and we never turned loose on a bucket all night. I am not getting into any pissing contest, I was just stating what i had read. I wasnt on the cast either night, and im not defending the score, but im not bashing it either. i find it hard to belive that a guy could convince the whole cast two nights in a row to fix the card.
