-- babblers and silent dogs (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=478851)
Hounds were bred to be open on track not silent nor are they suppose to be babbling, loose mouth and running dog tracks either. Both are bred into the dogs and the best solution to fix it is to ELIMINATE both of the problems.STOP breeding this crap back in to the line.Cant stand the attitude "As long as it trees coons I dont care what it does".

I just know that the vast majority of the time I cut loose in a cast and the dogs dont babble off the lead when they get in there quite a ways the first or second dog to open its mouth is mine. You wanna call that babbling or being loose mouthed? My best hound gets cheated alot on stike points by babblers but like I said most of the babblers are idiots and cant tree near as many coons as mine. Also he tends to get by himself alot. Get a good HONEST first strike dog and quit whinning.

depends on where i hunt him. if i cut him in patch woods or a grove and he doesnt strike he'll come back. If I cut him in a creek bottom or timber you'd better watch out. Some nights i let him go as far as it takes other nights i watch the garmin if he gets close to that seven hundred to a half mile mark I holler and he'll hit the brakes and come running back. Best of both worlds hunts deep and hard as any holstein I have ever cut loose if I want him to. And handles like a lap dog when I dont. lol.

Kaya its ovbious we are talking about different things.huge difference ina quick strike dog and a auto strike dog. I'm quite certain when you see what I'm talking about you will agree. A good auto strike dog will never get caught, a babbler will.
Well, I must be a little confused, I can see where silent dogs could be cast where there aint no coon and not tree and still be silent dogs. Casting bablers where they ain;t no coon and they never strike cannot be babblers. to me it is quite simple,

i have seen plenty of dogs that would trail after the other dogs and i have seen ones that never shut their mouths from the time you cut them till you shove them in the box. i have seen some that would trash then switch to a coon. but i have never seen one that might get in there ten yards or a thousand then just AUTOMATICALLY get first strike when there isnt a track. When I say I hear people whine and say they cant win with all these auto strike dogs it is usually at a hunt where we just cut the dogs loose between the timber and the corn under excellant tracking conditions and mine drives in there and hits the first track and starts driving it. while their tight lipped dog doesnt say boo until about the time mine is locating.
on second thought i think i am starting to understand if my dog gets first its babbling or automatically striking right. If yours does it its honest right. lol. I dont mind getting beat by an honest first strike dog it has happened plenty to me and you wil never hear me whine about that. Or call them a babbler the difference is VERY obvious

i dont comp hunt for obvious reasons that are argued about on this site all the time. i have seen a lot of dogs open as soon as they hit the woods everytime, no matter what. i even owned a couple myself and they were both hickory nut harry dogs. i wouldnt have dug a hole for either one of them. they were buzzard bait in my book. if your an honest man then obviously these guys givin you crap dont have anything to gripe about. they are just getting beat by a quicker hunting faster mouthed dog. i would want my comp dog to open as soon as he smelled a coon too. bablers need scratched for obvious reasons but let the silent dogs hunt.
