He is so full of it you cant even keep coon that long unless they arent put up and frozen. There are 2 big auction houses in north america nafa and north american fur harvesters. the local buyers all buy and send to these 80 percent of all of the fur in north america goes to these 2 houses. both houses are sold out of coon presently which will drive prices up even more. and if you call your buyers bluff and dont sell by the end of december they will be getting desprate to buy as many coons as possible because prices will be up and their stock will be low which will result in forcing higher prices for you the seller.

yes I would freeze all of them and sell at the beginning of january but you still need to let your buyer know that your not going to let him rip you off. The little coon are not selling well. this is true but they will go up too once the larger articles go up in price.

the global economy is doing much better than the US economy and china is seeing substantial economic growth since last year and with russia and greeces economy fairly stable this is also a tactic used by buyers to detur you from asking questions about prices. Fur buyers have the same policies as the Federal government when the US economy is bad say the world economy is bad as a scape goat and people just beleive what they are told.

prices

I sold 40 last tuesday to our local buyer and he told me best lot of coon he has seen so far. I was paid $14 straight across the board for a total of $560 which I thought was fair for coon in the grease. I hear alot of people selling to out of state buyers but I have chosen to sell locally as if we do not support our own fur buyers we may not have no where to get rid of coon if the out of state buyers quit running there routes. I understand some buyers are only after the dollar but there are some good local buyers that will treat you fair and my hat is off to them. His biggest complaint was about dogs chewing up the hides and he showed me what they looked like after being fleshed and I sure see his point I wouldn't want to spend my money on them either, So just remember that he is also taking a chance on buying and reselling. I know trapped coon are usually paid a little more but if you keep the dogs tied back and comb and dry them before freezing they sure will bring you a better price by a good buyer.

Them young dogs with their sharp teeth can sure put holes in a hide. Fur buyers sure don't like that, but them young dogs sure do.

Even if you sell them in the round, take the time to wash the blood out and brush them out and remove all burrs.

To remove blood use some cold water and then blot it dry with a cotton type rag such as an old white sock.

If everyone would follow those simple steps they would make more.

Finally, don't let the dogs play tug a war with the coons either. Even with all the fat on the skin, bite marks are clear.

fur buyers

if you are sellin your coon on the carcass or skinned you might think you are gettin low balled but you have to take in to consideration that he has to skin, scrape and dry them. A local buyer told me a generally put up coon average $3-4 higher. something else is they have to be put up right, if a poor job is done you might as well have sold them in the fat.

have taken 33 not skinned 139.00 avg 4.21 not the best but your not going to make a liven off of hunten Would like to see better but if I can feed my dogs 2 hounds and 2 house dogs im happy with that

Alot of it depends on how big and how your selling your coon. those of you that are selling skinned coon around the 10-15 dollar mark are right where you should be( smaller ones will be lower as they are not in demand. some may not buy them at all). most buyers aim to double there money on all coon up to 2x and they try to make 40 percent on on the bigger coon.its just like buying a car your not going to jump on the first price the dealer gives you. same thing with selling fur. and as for averaging 4 dollars on indiana coon your buyer is taking you for a ride.

In Missouri you can keep your fur year round now with a valid hunting or trapping license and sell when you want to the international markets.

So true. I've known George for 25 years. I used to sell to him when he had his own thing going back in the late 80's.

I dont even mess w/local buyers anymore, I flesh, wash, comb and stretch everything and ship it to NAFA's May auction.I sent everything last yr,the small ones killed the avg,if i'd sent just the 2x and up my avg would have been around $20.I averaged $11 on 16 muskrats, couldnt believe that!!!! I'd probably do even better than I have if I kept the coon away from the dogs....found quite a few tooth holes when I flesh, but then the dogs wouldnt have any fun!!
