-- question on rule (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=459012)

If a dog trees a coon or two , off by himself without getting with the other dogs at any time , considered to be working as " part of cast " ?
Or is he considered a "non-working" dog?
So does the dog that has been trailing the coon for an hour loose his strike points after an hour? That could be in a pull up short dogs favor while a real track dog did his job.
I have seen a lot more pull up short dogs than real good trackers on old hard tracks in the hunts here.
I haven't seen any that would just boo hooo for are hour though. This will be an interesting thread.

TWO COON RULE WAS BY FAR A BETTER WAY OF DETERMINING IF THE NEXT DOG TO STRIKE GETS 100 OR 25. YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER, YOU ARE HUNTING THE SAME WOODS UNTIL THE HOUR IS UP ON THIS TRAILING DOG. UNLESS YOU HAVE ALOT OF COON, THEN ONE HOUR IN ONE SPOT IS A LONG TIME TO BE WAITING AND ALOT OF TERRITORY COVERED. SORRY, BUT IF A DOG CAN'T TREE A COON AFTER TRAILING FOR ONE HOUR, IT NEEDS TO BE MINUSED, TIMEOUT CALLED, AND THE HANDLER GIVEN AN HOUR TO CATCH HIS DOG. JMO

Wasn't the old wording of the rule a snafu in the final cast of the World Hunt last year or year before last??
If I remember right, it was interpreted one way the week of the World Hunt and applied differently on the final cast.
I think UKC even has had issues with both wordings of the rule. LOL
Yes buckshot your right.
Two coon rule ain't really right either. Specially if my dog trees the first one. Then I cut back loose and strike for a 25.. Then another dog is treed and we see its coon. It gets to strike back for a 100. Rule needs done away with all together. Strike back in for next available any time.

i got knocked out of the finals last year because of the 2 coon rule... i treed the first coon and the 4th coon the dog that treed the 3rd coon and the 5th got to strike back in for 100 beat me by 25pts... we made 5 trees and looked at 5 coon and never had 2 dogs on any tree.... so i say the 2 coon rule sucks

Hey all....it may be written poorly but it was written that way more than 23 years ago and hasn't been a problem in the time I've been here. I guess I can see why it's causing some confusion if you read it literally but commone sense would suggest that because it's a "non-working dog rule" that strike points are not open again until the dog that is "non-working" has been doing so for one hour.
So Tim and Joey and some of the others are correct. You would technically need to know at what time a dog struck so that you could determine at what time other dogs can be struck in over him.
In the past whenever I saw this rule applied it was always because two coon had been seen so the time keeping wasn't an issue. Hope this helps.

Thanks Todd. Well I guess I was wrong. I read it as written ;-)
No that I know how they want it judged I will judge it that way from now on.

That’s all any of us can do Clay. Judge as best as we can interpret it until we find out different.
I have used it twice sense the rule has changed and both times the other three dogs were struck with in a few minutes of the hunt starting and where running for the rest of the time.
