It is a very simple rule, if, in the judges opinion, the dog is continuously silent on trail, at the end of the hunt the dog is SCRATCHED. Tom

I'm 55 have been hunting coon hounds and bear hounds for 32 years. I'd definately agree that there are a LOT more tight mouthed dogs today compared to 20 years ago.

I HAVE TO DISAGREE WITH THIS. I AM ONLY 33 BUT I WOULD SAY THAT IN THE LAST 5 YEARS OR SO I HAVE SEEN MORE DOGS THAT OPEN ON TRACK 5 TIMES FOR EVERY STEP THEY TAKE THAN I HAVE TIGHT MOUTHED DOGS. NOT TO PICK ON ANYONE BUT IT SEEMS LIKE EVERY WALKER FEMALE I HAVE DRAWN IN THE LAST 5 YEARS IS THIS WAY.
WHEN I FIRST STARTED COMPETITION HUNTING 15 YEARS AGO I HAD A REALLY GOOD STRIKE DOG. I RARELY TOOK ANYTHING OTHER THAN FIRST STRIKE. I GUARANTEE IF I WERE HUNTING HIM TODAY HE WOULD ONLY BE A THIRD OR FOURTH STRIKE DOG.
EVERYONE HAS THERE PREFERENCES
NO OFFENSE TO ANYONE BUT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHERE ALL THESE TIGHT MOUTHED DOGS ARE BECAUSE THEIR SURE AREN'T MANY AROUND HERE

Guys I have hunted in these hunts 40 yrs, I can count on my hand how many silent mouth dogs I have hunted with, they can have 25+ - 125+ = 150+. I will have 100+ - 75+ =175. But on other hand babbling dogs ever hunt. bo bo bo bo bo O he has cold nose. Right?

From your post above, it looks like your admiting to winning with a cover dog. Better not scratch that silent coon treeing machine or ole Mr. Cover dog's score could be impacted.
Just having some fun, don't take it personal.
Happy Hunting,
Justin
