..............

.found the coon that beat me on a Grand Night cast at Autumn Oaks a few years back..........with TEN seconds left in shining time..............I could have just kept my mouth shut, but then that wouldn't have been honest, would it...................dog that won was Hard Rock Slammer from Ohio....can't remember the owners name.......out of Cafe, I think.........very nice hound who was best that night...........he ended up with 875+

IT'S NO WONDER SO MANY GUYS FEEL THE WAY THEY DO ABOUT NOT COMPATION HUNTING OR BELIEAVEING IN A LOT OF THE BIG HUNT RESAULTS.....

Sorry Tom but that's the way it is. I'll bust my butt just as hard to find your coon as I would look for mine, but if someone can't extend that same courtesy to all the other cast members, they aren't going to continue to get my help. If that makes me a crook so be it.

The poll says 90% will help find a coon in anyone's tree, but my experience in the hunts tells me about 30% of them folks are lying. I might not shine your tree if you're being a jerk, but at least I'm honest.

I'm with you Brogy. They get what they give.

Russel, I have seen my buddy Marv make that statement several times when guys were crying about getting their tree minused.
"Put your light on something I can circle and you will get your circle". Usually followed by much stuttering.

Back then I was just getting back into the nite hunt game, now I've been around a little bit and getting shafted a few times makes you think about things. You can either quit and stay home, or play the game. It ain't a buddy hunt out there, it can be as enjoyable as the cast members want to make it. I've never gone blind at a tree and never will regardless, but I'll work as hard as the other cast members to shine each tree equally. Like JiM said, they get what they give.

You guys are talking like a bunch of hardened criminals. My personal belief is that circumstantial integrity is no integrity at all. I've had people intentionally overlook a coon or two my dog treed and it hasn't changed my mind. You're either one of them or you aren't.

My personal belief is that those that claim to have the most honsty and integrity are the ones that usually possess neither.....

.............

..the thing is..............our hunts around here have shrunk since the late 70's-early 80's, when we AVERAGED 60-70 dogs a hunt.......now a GOOD turnout is 15-25 dogs..............and it's mostly the same folks...........EVERYBODY knows who the scoundrels that need to try to scratch somebody to win/not see their coon are.................and who the honest hunters are.........

Who said anything about overlooking a coon? I would never do that to someone. I doubt josh or JiM would either.

I think what JiM, josh, myself and a couple others are saying is that while shining another dog's tree, if you want to stand there with your light off, stand in one spot with it out but not making an attempt to look, stand there and smoke a cigarette, or stand way out from the tree and pretend to shine while actually listening for your dog, you can expect the same treatment from us when your dog gets treed.

I think each handler in the cast along with a good judge, sets the tone for how a cast is going to go. I just go with the flow.

Posted by josh on 02-24-2011 05:41 PM:

Im sure it happens, but I have never once been on a cast where anyone went blind at the tree.

I makes me wonder a bit about those that have it happen on a cosistant basis.

THE HANDLER THINK IT IS FOR THEM BT IT IS FOR THE DOGS SO Y NOT LOOK FOR THE COON LIKE U WOULD IF U WERE HUNTING BY URSELF I WONT BEAT BY THE BEST DOG NOT THE HANDLER THAT NEEDS TO CHEAT TO WIN THE NITE HUNTS FOR TO HAVE FUN AND MEET NEW PPL AND C WHO HAS A BETTER DOG

Im still kinda new. Only been on maybe 10 or 15 hunts alltogether. I have only seen it happen ONE time in all those hunts. It was a young guy from Alabama. My dog treed the coon and all there dogs pulled up slick on a 12 foot tall sapling. All 3 of us seen it but that guy just said he didn't see it. Made me sick to my stomach. But I'd say thats pretty good percentages , one guy in that many hunts.

Do some of you really go to a hunt EXPECTING everyone else to find your coon for you?

oh yeah, we plussed it. I just mean the principal of the whole thing. He was mad cause my dog showed all 3 of the other dogs how to FIND a coon. LOL The old man on the cast was laughing at him. He said " boy, that coon is moving head around and looking at you now !! you cant see THAT ? ". LOL

good question Josh. lol I figure I got dog enough to win a lot of casts anyway, and you never know what kind of influence things are going to have on people down the road. Back then I probably wouldn't look too hard at all, NOW, i would go ahead and look for the coon anyway. Just to show that young boy how your supposed to act and be honest.

This thread is called Honesty Check, yet a couple guys who answered honestly are getting flamed. LOL!

I'd bet 50% of the 90% are lying! Experience in the hunts says other wise!

I've had a judge go blind on a cast. Not my dog's tree, but he did. He then went blind on another one and wouldn't see the coon until after the shine time.

I'm glad his sorry dog never made a tree all night, because I guarantee I wouldn't work too hard to find his coon.

Some of you are getting mixed up. I haven't seen anyone post on here that said they'd refuse to look at a coon or score a tree honestly, all that was said is that if you are a jerk to other cast members we aren't going to help you find yours. You can find it and show it to me. Play nice and you'll never have a problem with me. If that makes me the bad guy, so be it.

Posted by red hot sassy on 02-24-2011 08:22 PM:

well said jason when we take kids too comp hunts we should show them the rt way too hunt and always show them how to b sportmen even if they loss! now if u have too cheat for u can get a win for ur dog dose thet make ur dog a good one?

Posted by JiM on 02-24-2011 08:23 PM:

Honesty Check my ass. About as honest as a poll asking if you have a dog trees coons or a dog that trees trees. Bet that one gets 90% on one side too.

I will help anyone unless they have pissd me off or won't return the favor.

I will never forget last year at bluetick days we turned 1/4 mile from woods. All dogs were quiet. My banjo dog struck and drifted a track off to the right. All other dogs struck to the left and proceeded to the left. They treed and we went and scored their tree. No coon found and circled. Pulled them off the tree and Banjo was sitting wayyy in yonder hooked by himself with first and first . We got to the tree and and it was a small vinny tree goingg into a bunch of big trees.......we shined and shined and all of a sudden an older fellow in the cast that was missing one of his arms said "HEEERRRREee he is!" He was way back and found both eyes anf eventually the whole coon. That sat me purty. Was a great hunt and I have a lot of respect for that old fella. He didn't care who won. Just as long as it was the best hound and that's how it should be
