YADKIN RIVER

Love these Yadkin River hounds. The Chico x Dixie cross was the best ones that i have ever hunted with. Congrats to Dillion and Jeff for their win this past weekend with Yadkin River Jeff Jackson.

Posted by yadkinriver on 03-01-2011 01:55 PM:

congrats

Dillon did a good job handling and as usual ole Indiana had the Jackson dog ready.
If I get enough request I will reveal the secret that makes Ole Indiana the dog man that he is.

Posted by PRITCHARD on 03-02-2011 01:21 AM:

Lets here it??

He knows how to hunt them and keep them right.

YADKIN RIVER

LOL... Sorry about that Jack. Hope your doing well. Lets here a good Indiana story.

You asked for it so here goes. Note no disrespect intended for his parents as they are super nice and did the best they could with what they had to work with.
When Indy was real young his dad had an old walker bitch with a litter of pups. Indy got to watching the pups nursing and thought they were having too much fun. Then he happened to notice that there were seven pups and eight teats, so he rooted right in. The old bitch accepted him. When it came time to worm and dust the pups his dad picked him up by the nap of the neck and popped him a pill, shook some sevin on him and set him back down. Only place they could keep him and have him stay out of trouble. A few weeks later the pups were weaned and were sitting around Indys feet watching him eat cereal out of a jethrow bowl. Indy figured they had shared with him so he got down and they all ate cereal. Indy developed some bad habits but a keen switch broke him from chasing cars, laying in the yard licking himself, and sniffing the friends and neighbors when they came to visit. His mom just said her son had gone to the dogs. His grandma showed me a baby picture of him and said he was a pretty baby but she couldn't figure out what happened to him. I knew. His skin turned pasty white and sunlight hurt his eyes. He had turned nocturnal, a bona fide coonhunter.
More to come. I'll finish later.

Indy

Jack u got to be kidding me...lol

Posted by PRITCHARD on 03-05-2011 04:14 PM:

Bruizer

Bruizer is a nice looking male.

Posted by yadkinriver on 03-05-2011 06:26 PM:

Indy

Nope, ain't kidding. This is almost the gospel truth.
A few years later Indy shows up here in N.C. When I asked him what brought him here he said one night the coons wern't moving good and his dogs had to go deep o get after a coon. After a few turnouts he looked around and he was in N.C. Larry (worm) wishon took him under his wing and introduced him to competition hunting. Then I met him and got him to handle a dog for me. Only problem was we couldn't get him to read a rule book. It cost us an entry fee for every rule he learned. After a few years and countless entry fees we about got through the rule book. Then one night he came in with the winning card and the rest is history.
Hafta give him credit as he has done the work on some big winning dogs that he hasn't gotten proper credit for. He lays out in the woods about eight nights a week and now you know how he understands a dog so good. He's one of the pack.
Now if you think I'm stretching the truth, just ask people that know him good. Then you will find out I'm not stretching it all that far.

YADKIN RIVER

Indy is a good one. I have always enjoyed hunting with him.

Jack are there any Chico x Dixie dogs still alive??

Posted by yadkinriver on 03-06-2011 01:37 PM:

ChicoxDixie

Nope, they are all gone. Hollywood, Buckwheat, and Jeff11 were the last ones and they all died about the same time. Still several sons and daughters still around. Gonna breed a Hollywood daughter to Jim Meeks Curt dog as soon as she decides to cooperate.

Posted by Ralph Williams on 03-06-2011 02:06 PM:

Jack

Dad's Cookie female was put down around the same time Hollywood died. John Williams has a REAL NICE female out of Chubs who was out of a Dual Grand Chico and Dixie daughter and Nocturnal Nailor and a Hollywood daughter. Who is the mother to your female that your gonna breed to Curt?

yadkin man

Yea, you're right. Cookie died about the same time as the last males. The bitch we're gonna breed is the Sweet Pea bitch that was Billie Joe's pick of the litter out of Hollywood and Taboo. Indiana has been hunting her since around the first of Feburary and really likes her, good enough that he's getting a pup. She has a big male dog mouth on her and is a big good looking bitch.

Posted by PRITCHARD on 03-06-2011 05:08 PM:

Jack

Do u have a pedigree of this female your breeding to Curt?

Posted by yadkinriver on 03-06-2011 09:20 PM:

pritchard

She's bred three times Dixie x Chico and goes back to the old original Yadkin River Tom 22 times.

Posted by PRITCHARD on 03-07-2011 12:08 AM:

Sounds like a very nice pedigree.
