Good for you, and I'm sincere when I write that. Too bad no one took you up on your offer. THAT is the kind of stuff I'm talking about.
If you're gonna talk the talk then walk the walk.

Hat's off to you for going out and getting the job done when no one else would.

NorWeser, Id rather have the dog that cant run the 1 or 2 days a year that its -14 but doestn bark all over the hill on other days!!! I guess im just not as good a houndsman as u since I am not goin out in that weather anyways!

Cause i aint goin out in -14 degrees ...has no relation to my dog power, dog power is more than nose anyways!!! several components come in to play.

seems this is the only topic u ever post about? If i lived where u do I suppose id have more emphesis on cold nose hounds as well, but lets just put to rest the " if ya aint runnin when its -14 then u shouldnt make them statements "

"I DO KNOW THAT DARRIN PUTS HIS TIME IN TO HIS HOUNDS CAUSE IVE COUGHT HIM IN SOME MY SPOTS THIS WINTER"

Hey I thought they were my spots, lol get ahold of me, we'll do some running.

Gezz guys didn't mean to start an argument I was just looking to see some males run this winter. I think it is cool how everybody has there own idea of what a snow dog should be. To the people in the south who get that freak snow storm once a year and are just happy to see that there dogs run on snow for the day, to people here in N.Y that have to deal with snow from October till April. To our Canadan friends to the north who apperently have snow and sub zero tempatures 11 1/2 months a year.A snow hound means different things in different parts of the country. Each to there own!!!! So I will change my post. IF ANYBODY WANTS TO GO RUNNING SOME HARE THIS WINTER GET AHOLD OF ME! JUST NO GUNS DEAD HARE DONT LEAVE TRACKS FOR TOMORROW.THANKS DARREN

P.S does anybody have a hot summer nosed dog, thinking bout moving south.

54tsmith,I'll take you up on your offer to run..Whats your phone number??

Posted by NorWester on 01-26-2011 10:45 PM:

Mitch, if I only had one or two tough days year I wouldn't worry about it either.
For me, I have no choice. If I wanna hunt from from November thru till May...... I have to have hounds that can run in snow & cold and I'm out doing it 4 days a week at least.
So excuse me please, I don't mean to offend anyone, HOWEVER if we're gonna talk snownose, I'm gonna call into question anyone who talks like they got it all, can run in anything....... but won't go out in it or only has a couple of days a year where such a discussion is applicable.

It has nothing to do with being a better houndsman..... that's just petty crap.

If this doesn't apply to you...... then I'm not addressing you or anyone else that it doesn't apply to.

p.s. I don't trial, just hunt/run so you won't see me posting about trialing because I have no interest in it and wouldn't know what I was talking about even if I did have an interest as I've never seen or entered one.

54tsmith, how's your dog bred, if you don't mind me asking?

Posted by 54tsmith on 01-27-2011 09:32 PM:

mine

i got from glen landry whitney hill beagles you would have to ask him i bought the dog a year and a half ago on a trial and have not whent down to get my papers. 2 years ago i asked him for one and he said i know what you want and called me a year later with him. he realy done me right and i dont know if the dog would be for sale if he wasnt so tall. on that other thread i was speaking of 2 dogs the other being my friends he and i have kept a line going for a very long time and we are out of female to keep it up so i want to breed his male witch will run a hare like its nobodys business and the two are very comparible. these hounds get run all winter long dont realy run in the summer much as then its time for the coon hounds. i was looking for a out cross to keep that line up, but since then i have spoke with glen and he s got a female for me so thats were ill be going. our line is just dogs we have had over the years that can get the job done in the foul weather cause thats when we run in the winter. just so happen that these 2 hound are some of the best weve had over the years. thanks ps im just a joe shmo with an opinion dont mind me i might not know what a real snow dog is

Darren, check out Ernie Wier's Ripper and Max dogs, they can both get it done on the snow, and he hunts the same conditions you do.
