-- Kennel "or" Chain (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=400040)
HERE'S a stupid ?how do you all keep the dog from moving the dog house around with the chain?even if thers just enough slack for the dog to get into the house.
My current set up I have the house next to the garage.
Here you can see the dog can only get his head around the back.
If the dog has enough chain to get in but not around... the house will never move. I always position house to the outside of the space. Never inside where the chain can wrap around the house.
This set up, which is one summer house, will show the house against the fence. The dog can't get all the way around the house.
Here is another summer set up, before I used the cable and only had a chain. The chain can't be wrapped around the house.
This will show how far in the house the dog can go.
I have a 6 acre Kennel and a 2,800 sf Dog house !!!
Seams to work well for 20 + hounds .......

We have both kennels and chains. I prefer to keep my own on chains. For the most part I only keep pups or females in heat in a kennel.

For fleas, ticks, flies, and mosquitoes to some extent, you can zip tie a Bayer cattle fly tag to the dogs collar and it will keep them tic and flea free. It also helps keep biting flies and some insurance against skeeters. I have cattle, sheep, and goats and was having a terrible time with biting flies. I put the cattle tags on my dogs and no more flies. Ridding them of flea and tick problems was just a lucky side effect. Only problem is with the hog and bear dogs that run through a lot of rough terrain, they tear the tags off. I am experimenting with zip tying them to the under side of the collar.

When you have a litter of pups how do you know who the sire is?
Your test for tonight. Does anybody out there know about ' pie are square' on a ten foot chain? Please answer. VS a 4X8 prison cell; sqft?
10' chain.......so, a 10' radius and a 20' diameter circle if the dog can run in circles.....
Area = pi x radius squared where pi = 3.1416
radius = diameter/2 = 10 ft
area = 3.1416 x 10 x 10 = 314.16 sq ft.
......A 4x8 kennel is 36 sq ft.
lol.......big diff in sq footage here ........But, I'll stick with my 3 acre enclosure !!!

Chains and Kennels here. I like to keep the pups and young dogs on chains they like it alot better more room to play. I keep the older dogs in the Kennels. I also have one above ground pen where I raise pups and put females in heat. I only have 2 old dogs and 2 young dogs at the moment. I also have one heck of a watchdog 1/2 Catahoula 1/2 Austrailian Shepard. The best watchdog I have ever owned EVER.

Have you tried putting the tags on like this on the collars:
I over lap the tag and punch the male button through. I take a Dremel (or you can use a grinder) and file down the point on the male button till it's round and smooth. No glue to come unglued or tie straps to break.
