-- What Do You Hunt Males Or Females? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=398755)

I have always prefered to hunt females. call it a personal choice :P

when it comes to coonhuntin though........I have always thought female hounds were smarter than male hounds. Also the great Willie Hankins told me once male dogs are in heat 365 days a year and females are in 2 twice a year for a couple weeks. That advice always stuck and to date I have only owned 2 male dogs total. Looser and my old Pride dog years ago.

Makes a big differance to some. A male doesn't come in heat about the time that big hunt you have been looking forward to all year comes up. Doesn't knock you out of 2 months a year of hunting. Don't let anyone tell you a bitch won't run around and mark everything like a male will either. The dominate ones do.

A male is known to be more stuburn. That makes them a little harder to train for a soft handler but not as easy to ruin to a heavey handed handler. The stuburn is a good thing when it comes to a hard track.
The female is just the oposit of the male. Now this can all be argued from dog to dog BUT as a rule this is how it is. Of course there are the exceptions in everything.

well 1 was (loose) but my other 2 personal favs were female.

Loose was my fav to take to a nite hunt, his sister Crank was hands down my favorite of all time to just go huntin with. Same cross just different litters.

If I had to pick one I owned for both it would be my old Racket female from years ago. Not as good as either of the other 2 in there nich.........but better than both outside there nich.

The Pride dog was good for the time, but now days I would have shot him within a week.

LMAO I have a female here that's the same way. I still throw her into the mix once in a while and she'll surprise me with a split tree. Then she goes right back to being stupid in company. I think she's messing with me. LOL I had her spayed. She wasn't going to improve the breed any.
I'm a hide hunter and she's my top hide dog.

I hunt primarily female's. I have a male here that is starting to turn the corner. He's my 3rd male in 25 years of hunting. The other two didn't make the cut. He might.
