Well, just for craps and giggles, I called one local vet here today and I was mostly right. For one 60lb dog it would cost $62 and about half of that is for a fecal exam. I could not "just go in and get the pill"!
They did say that when I had the exam, that it would be valid for up to a year if a reinfestation occurred and then, and only then, could I "just come and get the pill"! But only for that one year period!
Not as expensive as I thought it would be for one dog, but if you have two or more dogs to worm, not the route I would go. If you guys have had a fecal exam at these vets in the last year, that is probably why you can "just go in and get a pill".
If not, give me the phone # of one of these vets so I can call and see if John Smith, whom they do not know from Adam, can just walk in and get a pill!

Well I don't know about buddies, we certainly don't socialize but I have used the same group of vets for many years for horses, mules and dogs and we do have a working relationship. I don't think it is at all rare, atleast not in this area.
