Well it could be that your dad regrets not getting to hunt with you while you were younger. My daughter is 15 and loves these hounds, Goes hunting with me several times a year over the past 5 yrs. She loves to take these dogs to the shows and likes talking about her dogs! But being a man and father i from time to time say some bonehead statement or act like a 10yr old and she tells me that's all right dad you can't help it . your a guy and a dad me and mom will eventually get you straighten out !
Were guys we can't help it LOL. Do what you love and he will support you. have faith in him! He loves you.

One more thing. Why did you say especialy women when you was wanting people to answer this. They are guessing what he meant from a womans perspective. Fathers can have many regrets about what they didn't do with there girls later in life. I never treated my daughter like a girl and I still have regrets but we are best friends and there is nothing she won't talk to me about.

Well...I know that we all have said things to the ones we love the most, that we would give anything to take back. My guess is your father is one of us. I would say if you him love as it appears give him the space to make it right. So many times we speak without thinking . If you did not love each other unconditionally it wouldn't hurt you so bad. Forgive him. He loves you.

Yep Tom is 100% right. Communication is the key and old daddys arent ever as good at it as they should be. I guess we expect our kids to just kow what we mean even when it doesn't come out right. I know my 33 year old daughter has told me of times I hurt her as a child that I had no idea of.

he meant by the statement was had he realized you loved hounds so much he would have taken you when you were young.. I took all 3 of my girls.. they didn't care for it much... Now my son is a coonin fiend.... He meant you no slight, he actually admitted he should have done better....

Two thoughts:

I think maybe you're jumping to (feminist oriented) conclusions, a bit. He might just be concerned about your well being. I have no doubt a woman can be just as good a coonhunter. But, having a daughter myself, I'm not so sure I want her in the woods at night alone or with strange men in far off places that coonhunting will take you.

The other thing is every beginner has dampers put on their coonhunting desire from time to time. If you really want to do it, you'll work through the little "dampers" that come along. What daddy says seems like a very minor thing, to me....

Yes, I think I made a mistake in titling the thread "especially to the women". I do actually want responses from men because they are more likely to know where my father was coming from. Sorry about that.
