I commend you on your choice to serve our country...... you truly will be one of the few.... the proud.... and that holds true for all branches. Did you know that in the whole country, including all branches, less than 1% of Americans choose to serve in the armed forces? I sir Salute you!!!!!!!!! HOOAH!!!!!!!!

That is 4 months which 7.5 lbs per month. That is an attainable goal through eating habits and exercise. Exercising now is two fold, one you lose weight, and two you are in shape before you get to Parris Island. I was a DI at 3rd Bn, I Co from 94-96 and if there was one thing that chapped my a$$ was when someone came to the Island totally out of shape and expected us to wave a wand and make them a "Super Stud" overnight. The two biggest things that I encountered recruits having issues with were the rope climb and pullups. It seemed as if they had no upper body strength. The run was usually okay after the first month or so, but even so I suggest that you can at least complete 3 miles even if you can't do it in 28 minutes.(bare minmum) The more you prepare the better off you are. If you can't swim I suggest you learn (YMCA) between now and when you go. The Corps will teach you, but you will be hating life the whole time.
Good Luck
James

As a couple people on here have said take the ASVAB test and go from there. I wanted to go into law enforcement right out of high school. My first thoughts (after watching the movie, Tribes) was the USMC. At that time (early 70's) the Marines were sending their MP's to Lackland Air Force Base to the Air Force Law Enforcement Academy. I figured if the Marines were sending their people to an Air Force law enforcement program the Air Force had the best law enforcement progam going at that time. It is my understanding that a lot of the service schools are combined or are combining. Heard rumor that Fort Leonard Wood, Arkansas is a combined law enforcement school now. Not real sure on that. Check it all out and get guarantees on your contract. I had a total of 25 years (4 active 21 Reserve) of GOOD Air Force life. I retired as the Security Forces Raven Program Manager. The Raven Program kept me in as good of shape as most military programs will require and I literally saw the world. Whatever your decision keeping a fitness standard should be a priority in your life. At the current age of 55 I am still in as good a shape as some of those 22 year old Marines...but, a part of me still would like to say...Semper Fi!!!!!!

They allso keep you from getting advancements at work. They keep you from being able to get a better job than what you have now. No one wants to hire someone if they are going to have to hold there position open for a year while you are in Afganistan. This is sad that they do this but it is very true. The higher position you hold the harder it is on them when you are gone for a year.

If you want to get into law enforcement you better hope you know how to lie on your mental evaluation when you get back. Atleast if you come back with PTSD you will have to lie to past the test.

Air Force Reserve

I'm in the Air Force Reserve. I've been in since 2006. It was either going to be Army or Air Force, and I ultimately chose Air Force.

USAF

You need to realize that the choice you make on which branch you go into could change your life forever. In 1998 i didn't want to go to college so I decided to join the military for what I thought was going to be four years. Well 11 years later I know that my choice to join the Air Force was the best life choice ever. The Air Force will give you the best training out there. The Security Forces for the Air Force are top notch and will prepare you for the out side law enforcement jobs better than any other branch. The PT program is legit as well. There are also many other jobs that you could consider that would help your career on the out side. You don't need to be Military Police to get selected as a state trooper. Just being in the military shows you can uphold core values and gives you that added chance for selection in the civilian life. Of course you might end up like me and be on your way to 20 years in the military. I can retire at the age of 38 and move on to a life in the civilian world if i chose.
