Not sure on the first one, maybe David Welch, then Hal Mecham, Mark Boren and Jerry Boren. I'll bet that image was taken up on Diamond Mountain on the Boren property neat their cabin........probably during spring bear season?? Mechan sent me that image a year or so back when I had a post going about southern Utah hound breeding......
Those are a couple of nice looking red dogs on the wood, so are you raising, training and selling hounds? Still Comp hunting coons?

Griz is now a six year old and came from my blue Ryan dog and a red female out of Ike and LionHeart. He now carries on where Ryan, Rowen and LionHeart left off.

That black and white female jumping into the tree is Rowen, and a littermate to my blue Ryan dog. She is now thirteen and was always a top lion and bear hound, and goes back to Slew and SueSue.

There have been alot of good days after the game and hounds haven't there? Good times, lots of good photos and memories...........

This track was put down in the mud the evening before, then snowed on and covered before I got to the track. Most of the ground was dry south slopes before the new snow fell, with some old snow on the north faces, in some of the roughest country in the West.......
My four hounds trailed this lion out over a deep canyon and jumped him laid up on a south facing slope, and I was in the canyon below them when it happened. My blue Ryan dog was there first and he bailed off the cliff behind that tom and left the other three dogs ledged out when they arrived. Ol' Ryan treed that tom alone, and I could hear him hammering on the wood near the head of a long canyon.
A young man and I headed in as it was late in the afternoon and snowing huge flakes. About half way to the tree I could hear LionHeart chopping down the track in the distance and then fall on the wood behind Ryan, then Choco.
Great memories for sure......

Sammy in the foreground, then Choco and Ryan in the distance on a nice boar we ran down for a client on the last day of the season. It was nearly 11:00 AM and Ol' Ryan hit this bear on the wind, was dumped on a blind rig and went to the bear on the run. I only had three dogs that were solid on their feet that day and almost didn't go hunt.
The race went ten or more miles, one of the longer runs I've had on a jumped bear. But Ol' Ryan wasn't gonna let this boar off the hook and my hunter took a nice bear..........
Lotta memories from the Basin...........

Choco and Ike after a thirty-six plus hour day on bear
This is one of the days I failed my hounds and didn't get to them before dark. We were in sharp country and I chose to take my hunter home rather than risk getting somebody hurt.
I did get four dogs called off the bear run but these two older red dogs didn't listen, and when we arrived at my truck just after dark we could hear them treed out on a point a long ways off. The next morning at daylight they were still treeing when I arrived, then jumped and took the bear off into another hole and it was nearly dark before they quit the bear and I found them. Tough day but they got loaded the second night while there was still a little light in the western sky.
Ike came from the Hoffmeister line of hounds and Choco from a cross i made between Ike and LionHeart, two tough traiol and tree hounds for sure......

Yes Redman, There are tons of memories and have been lots of game put in a tree in the Basin over the years. In this image I'm shown with a client of Wildlife Mountain Outfitters and a nice tom we put up with our hounds. In the Photo left to right was my Red Ike dog, my blue Ryan dog and my red LionHeart dog in the rear. Labrum also had three dogs at the tree, one of those hounds was his plott Sqaw dog. Many of these dogs are southern bred Utah hounds that go back to some of Hal Mecham;s breeding and have been outcrossed to top lion hounds......
Tons of memories,
ike

This is a photo of my Ike dog with a bobcat she ran down in her prime. A buddy and I had started five or six dogs on a single cat in fresh snow late one winter afternoon, probably after 3:00 PM. Little did we know that a couple miles down the track our hounds would pile up in a mess of cow tracks. My old LionHeart dog was the only dog that took that bobcat track through the tracks that were stomped out by cows, and she treed this bober shortly before dark. But to be fair to the other dogs, LionHeart would not open on track until the cat was jumped and therefore did not offer any other dogs a leg up.
That was only one of the many times my LionHeart bitch made it happen for me when all the other dogs had failed. LionHeart came from a cross Shawn Labrum made from his Sqaw dog to a red and white male that belonged to Leland Evans name Duster, and was held up as one of the finished hounds they ever owned. So yes, I know Leland Evans.........
I also met Shirley Cook a number of times over the years before he passed but never hunted with him. Shirley was a houndsmen through and through. I also roughnecked for Tex Evans for a week or so while waiting for a drilling job to open up back in the early eighties, never hunted with him or talked dogs either. I've heard the name DJ Reynolds but have no first hand knowledge of him.....
Lots of men come and go in a person's life, some make a larger impression than others for some reason..........
Thanks for the comments on the red dogs, as I've always favored that color as well...............

Pictured from left to right: LionHeart, Ryan and Rowen...
It was these three dogs that started me calling my pack, the Wolf Pack. That wasn't because they were overly gritty or mean but was done because they packed well, ran as a team, and had just about no quit in them, in fact running and trailing like a wild pack............
The Wolf Pack under one of the many bear trees they made.....

Ol' Griz under the tree. Griz came from a cross between my old, blue Ryan dog and a red female name Multi--that female had my red Ike as a sire and LionHeart for a ****. That's my little Rui Li (Ray Lee) dog on the far side who also had Ryan as a sir.

Sorry to hear that and I hope things turn around for you soon. I picked up the flu about Wednesday and I've been on my butt every since...........but here is an image that may make you feel better. That little black and white female in the back is the sister and litter mate to my Ryan dog. They will both be fourteen this summer. Rowen is out of Slew and goes back to your SueSue dog. I use to get mad cause she'd climb but finally realized it was just who she was..............

I have lots of those images that should be on my wall instead of in my computer, oh well! The above image was taken of my LionHeart dog when she was a young dog. I started her with two younger dogs on this melted out lion track, and as you can see the ground was mostly open. That lion crossed a couple roads and walked down one of them putting an end to the trail for my Ryan and Rowen dogs who were only eighteen months old. But LionHeart figured it all out and put that lion in a tree for the old man........
There are few things tougher for a trail hound than having to pus a cold lion track down a dirt road, but that dog was a master at it. Years ago a buddy and I were hunting the Book Cliffs and found a huge boar track walking up a canyon. It was midday and we hoped to follow the track to where it left the road and send dogs. before that happened it began to sleet and that white stuff covered the ground and was about an inch deep. Game over for most........
I stopped and put LionHeart down on the road and she took that bear track (under the sleet) for nearly a mile before she left to the east. We raced up there and dumped eight more hounds in behind her, some of which were young and belonged to my buddy. Late that afternoon LionHeart, Ryan and Rowen had this bear in the tree.....

Another time a friend was hunting LionHeart on a client while I was out on the sled cutting for tracks. A nice tom lion came down on the road and they couldn't find where it left. The road was solid ice and they telephoned asking for input. I told them to put LionHeart down and she followed the track until it left north on a bare spot, then it was game on.......
Tons of memories.......
