Meaning of course that YOU think YOU can train it out of one that is really genitically programmed to do it? Am I correct in making this assumption?

Yep, you never broke a dog off of off game. Just becouse they have the want to doesn't meen you can't train them not to do it. Ever tought a border collie to drive instead of heard. It is in direct conflect of there instinct.
There instinct is to heard which is to gather into a group. Natural instinct is to put them in a circle with you at there 6 o-clock right on the other side of the heard from them. To get them to drive youhave to TRAIN them to come off ballance to your side and push them away.
You can allso teach non hunting breeds to hunt dope,people and yes even animals. So yes it makes a trainers job a lot easier to train a dog with the genitics to do what you are training it for BUT it can be trained not to do what its instincts tell it to.
You would be amazed at how many pointers wouldn't point if not teased with a wing at an early age to get its instincts to kick in. Pointing is a stocking instinct.

Man you walker guys are touchy, take great offense when someone talks about slick treeing walkers, but your the same bunch who us the term BOOTICK constantly to describe a weak track dog.

If your gona be honest you know most of the guys working with young dogs with toooo much tree bred into them are hunting a walker.

Looks good on paper anyway doesn't it? Might not be quite that easy in real life though!

im not screaming foul and you never heard me bash any breed ,im smart enough to know all breeds slick tree, but its all good and the guys get on here and just start bashing walkers . ive seen every breed and ive seen good and bad in all. i have invited 2 or 3 walker bashers to come hunt and show me what they have and guess what no takers.

Nope it isn't easy. You have to go out and train to do it but if you will go to any profesional dog trainer you will see it done on a daily basis. That is why they call it training.

I saw some nice well known walker dogs on Tailgate Adventures this week. Liked the way the guys talked about them being honest strike dogs and all... what they were breeding for in their hounds etc. . Nice looking hounds with nice mouths as well.

need to get that young dog off feeders bud! hunting dogs on feeders gets them in a habit of always shooting in about a hundred yards and falling treed! they get in that habit and when you hunt them wild they will either go about a hundred yards and come back or go and slick tree! breeds doesnt matter they will all do it

and like the other guys said dont beat him he to young you could break him from treeing all together just scold him and make him go on and pick the track up and when he treeing the coon just tell him good job rub him down a LITTLE! that whole slapping the tree and sic him will cause un wanted problems later on down the road!

biggest thing is get him off the feeders man i live where coon is thin and hunting is rough and i made the same mistake using feeders cause its so much easier especially on nights you have to work the next day! but it aint worth it ruin your pup i messed up a nice female on feeders but i figured out what i was doin wrong and starting hunting her wild again and it took me a few months to get her back right!

after i got her right she got in the final 4 twice in michgian madness and qualified for the world, she had a cast win at autumn oaks but them feeders about had her screwed up there ok to get one started but once they start treeing on there own take away from the feeder and teach them to go look for a coon cause remember! IF THEY AINT TREED DEEP WITH THE MEAT THEY WILL SELL FOR CHEAP!
