I have never heard that rule. Is that an Amish rule?

Interesting topic, probably not to many Amish will get in on it. It does help to hear from those who grew up in that religion or have neighbors. The deal is there is a difference between being a member of a religion and being a devoted believer in the power of the gospel of Jesus. Just like some Baptists, Methodists, Presbyterians, Lutherans or Catholics may or may not have their personal life at all affected by their religion so it is with Amish, Hutterites, Mennonites and Whatever-ites. If Jesus has changed your heart and set you free from sin to live a holy life you have a person who would be a good neighbor. If you have someone who is doing some rules and methods to be religious then good luck, maybe they are nice or maybe they are jerks...it can go either way. You can never judge a whole group by what someone or one person did. I do draw a line between Christians with a big 'C' and christians small 'c' as some are Christian in religion only and others have a faith in Christ that is personal, meaningful and is obvious in how they live and act, causing them to be more than simply a nice person.

They maybe amish, but they're still human. My mama & daddy had electricity, cars, & zippers on their britches, but they also had sense enough not to believe me when i said "we were just talking!" Much less make it a tradition. Ha

LMAO...Sooooooo true!!!! My mom would of NEVER stood for that, period! Also you have Rumshpringa, which is when the kids hit 16 yrs. old and are allowed to go out and 'sow their wild oats', before they decide if they want to be Amish or not. The things these kids do is unbelieveable, I would have gotten grounded and locked in my room for a year, iffn I did half the things they do!

Andy you must be holding a grudge against your felloiw amish friends for some reason. Why don't you come out and tell us why you can't forgive them ? I know a lot of amish that are great people to be associated with. Have you ever looked back at some of the issues you were having and taken a minute to think how could i have handled that differently or responded better ? Life is all about choices and what we make out of situations that affect us. We can take a negative additude and be miserable all the time OR we can take a positive approach and make something good come out of every situation. Have you looked at the world lately and smiled ? Please , before it consumes you, think about this. 1 John 5:21

Here where I live in the central part of New York State, we have seen a huge influx of Amish in the last several years. The thing of it is, Amish are not all the same. There are quite a few different flavors of Amish throughout the country, such as Old Order, New Order, Beach, Andy Weaver, and Swartzenruber. Here in NY State, we seem to mostly see Old Order, New Order, Swartzentruber, and of course different versions of Mennonites. Some groups of Amish have little or nothing to do with other different groups of Amish, sometimes in the same area. I kind of wish that they did, because they are prone to a number of genetic disorders; having been all descended from 200 people. Whatever the case, they are like people anywhere else, some are real good and some ain't worth didly. There are a number of things that Amish do that I don't agree with, and a number of things that they do that I do see as being ok. I coonhunt with some of the Amish kids in the area, and they seem to be ok so far.
