-- Missouri Prop B - Letter to the Editor (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=381601)
Please Vote No on Proposition B – Here’s Why
1. There is no excuse and no tolerance for abusing or neglecting an animal.
2. HSUS: The Humane Society of the United States is not aligned with our local animal shelters. This is a dishonorable organization with a misguided effort that adversely affects the livelihoods of reputable kennel owning families that play by the rules. Local animal shelters get basically no financial support from the HSUS .
3. The Ballot Initiative: This is more government intrusion caused by an unfunded mandate by a nationwide activist organization that stands to swell its treasury from the conflicts. We don’t need outsiders funding a misguided effort to tell us how to conduct our business in Missouri.
4. HSUS (2008 tax return) returns < ½% of its gross revenues for hands on care of dogs and cats.
That’s 10 cents on the $19/month that they are asking for membership. This group thrives on conflict to raise money: Haiti earthquake, the Gulf oil spill, and Hurricane Katrina. Their fundraising is a scam!
5. Numerous Missouri agriculture groups are aligned in opposition to Proposition B, in addition to the MVMA (Missouri Veterinary Medical Assn.) and the AKC (American Kennel Club). Plus, The AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Assn.) has issued a scalding rebuke on You Tube to the HSUS about their tactics and propaganda.
6. More resources (people and funding) is what’s needed to effectively deal with unlicensed, substandard kennels, hoarders and animal abusers, not more needless regulation. Operation Bark Alert is working. The Animal Care Facilities Act (enacted in 1992) is in place and covers the health and care requirements well according to Dr. Michael Muhlbauer, of the MVMA Animal Welfare committee.
7. Prop B does nothing to solve the unlicensed, illegal breeder issue as it does not increase enforcement. The illegal breeder issue will continue if it passes.
8. The ’50 dog limit’ is a dangerous infringement on the rights of legitimate, licensed and regulated breeders, and sets bad precedent that government can/should limit production of ANY business. Then it may be only a matter of time before these limits apply to all animals, thus affecting all agribusiness and our nation’s food supply.
New Prop. B ad uses puppies for emotional response
ST. LOUIS -- Flush with cash, the campaign to crack down on dog breeders in Missouri is out with its first television commercial today -- part of what could be a media blitz from now until election day.
The group, funded by animal welfare organizations and wealthy advocates from around the county, has raised more than $2.7 million, including $100,000 today from the Humane Society of Missouri.
They are pushing Proposition B, a ballot question that would curb Missouri's role as a lead exporter of puppies by introducing new regulations -- requiring larger pens, and fewer animals to a facility -- to the hundreds of breeding facilities in the state.
Not surprisingly, the ad unveiled today tugs firmly at the heart strings: It features dogs that, according to the spot, were rescued from "puppy mills" in Missouri, as well as a young girl hugging a puppy at the end.
Prop. B supporters, who had to spend money to get their issue on the ballot, now appear poised to use the rest to flood the zone the last month before the election.
That makes the challenge for opponents of Prop B. even more difficult. In addition to having to fight against pictures of sad puppies, the opposition -- which has said it fears the impact the initiative could have on agriculture -- has also substantially less funding than the other side.
Dogs and puppies have been and will still be rescued from abuse from puppy mills regardless of prob b. What they need is more man power.
Feel Free to cross post this on any site you can think of to get the word out! Post it to your local Craigslist!

“Our goal is to get sport hunting in the same category as cock fighting and dog fighting. We are going to use the ballot box and the democratic process to stop all hunting in the United States.” -Wayne Pacelle, President, HSUS

While Americans across the country have entered the political game to save our country, moving that proverbial ball of freedom towards the end zone, we’ve been sacked. Blindsided. We’ve been so focused on legislative elections (and rightly so) that most Americans don’t even know they’ve been hit – and hit hard.
But not by some big, burly monster like voter fraud or corruption. No, we’ve been knocked flat by the ignorance of the conservative electorate and cute little puppies licking our stunned, what-the-heck-just-happened faces.
scotlund2Well, I’ll tell you what just happened.
It’s called the Humane Society of the United States cowardly hiding behind animal cruelty, lying to our citizens and taking our constitutional rights away – one state at a time.
This radical animal rights organization (HSUS), who spends less than 0.5% of its $100M + budget on actually helping animals, is using the referendum process to slowly, systematically eliminate food production in the United States.
In California, HSUS has decimated the egg industry forcing chicken farmers out of business and consumers to buy imported eggs. In Florida, for all intents and purposes, HSUS eliminated the pork industry. (Wondering why pork prices are going sky high?) They’ve also crippled numerous other agribusinesses – dragging connected industries down with them.
This November, HSUS is after the dog breeding industry in Missouri calling the bill the “Puppy Cruelty Prevention Act”. Great name. I mean who wouldn’t want to keep someone from being cruel to a puppy? The problem is Missouri already HAS laws protecting animals – all animals. So what’s the real agenda?
Simply to get rid of ALL dog breeding in Missouri – the unlicensed AND licensed breeders. Missouri’s Proposition B makes it a “crime of cruelty” for a piece of dog food to be in a water bowl or for a dog breeder to treat their own pet if they become ill (even with something as simple as a cold). To add insult to injury, HSUS has exempted themselves and shelters from these same laws. Apparently, they’re allowed to be cruel, but no one else is. (No folks, I don’t make this stuff up.)
This would almost be comical if it weren’t for the OTHER, more insidious parts of this bill that hit at the very core of our liberties. This bill forces breeders to limit the number of dogs they can own – regardless of care. Think about this a minute . . . . Should the government have the right to limit the number of houses a realtor can sell? Or the number of cattle a rancher can raise?
These new regulations will put almost every breeder in Missouri out of business forcing the price of dogs to sky rocket and allowing pet ownership only for the very wealthy. But this bill is just a stepping stone. HSUS eventually wants to extend this law to ALL animals. Their idea of utopia is a United States with NO animal ownership; NO meat to eat; NO pets; NO hunting; NO fishing; NO service animals. If chicken farmers would be forced to own no more than 50 chickens they could no longer afford to stay in business. The same will hold true with hog farmers and cattle ranchers. Eventually, agri-business will be forced to go over seas, just as our manufacturing and tech industries.
But even the extinction of our food industry isn’t the scariest part of this whacko liberal agenda. A law is only as good as it’s enforced. And HSUS is happy to fill the void. HSUS has now become the self-appointed law enforcement of the animal world. In some states, HSUS employees are running around with guns and police-like badges breaking down doors, confiscating animals and business papers, and obtaining warrants with false information. Lawsuits are cropping up against HSUS, sheriffs and governments for blatant violations of the most basic of constitutional rights.c
Enough is enough. We have to draw the line and hold these radical animal rights activists back. The battle this year is in Missouri. If we do not all enlist and soundly defeat this deceptive bill, you can expect your state to be next.

To show how smart the HSUS followers are , (or aren't) they exposed themselves by saying in Flordia they wanted to stop the crating of mother pigs. On the farm we always called them sows.
In California one of the HSUS people in an interview said it was really cruel to take the baby chickens away from their mother before they were weaned at 6 weeks of age.
I sure wouldn't wanting either of these people dating my cocker spaniel !

In case anyone has yet to read the full text of Prop B, here it is - and please do note Section A.9 which states -- "Pet" means any domesticated animal normally maintained in or near the household of the owner thereof.
HSUS has introduced Proposition B as a means of eliminating the legal, licensed professional dog breeders in Missouri. According to the Missouri Department of Agriculture, no current licensed breeder can comply with the regulations put forth in Proposition B, no matter how clean and well run the facility. Cost prohibitive space requirements coupled with misdemeanor crimes for the most minor of issues will eliminate the legal industry in our state.
Anyone with 10 dogs is supposed to register and after 10, they have to have a state license.
The HSUS's television ad has proven the breeders' point. They say more than 3,000 "puppy mills" are in Missouri. There are 1,455 licensed breeders in Missouri, so if they know where the unlicensed ones are shouldn't they alert the authorities? There are already laws to shut them down. The state has said for years they don't have funds to hunt them down. So if HSUS can dot them out on a map, why haven't they?
·
If successful with Proposition B, HSUS will be back in Missouri to target animal agriculture and hunting.

by the time they realize how badly they screwed up it'll be way too late. I've already seen a large number of purebred older (6,7,8) dogs - mostly small breeds - up for free or sale cheap this morning with papers.
The legal, licensed breeders are gonna end up flooding the shelters, rescues and for sale ads with older dogs to get below the new "legal" limits.

With who just got elected into office and with everyone fighting for it to be thrown out and with the votes like they was I was told it is a very good chance... But who knows only time will tell!
