Stinging nettles are bad enough on your hands, but a remember one night very well! It was hot and humid. The sweat was staining my glasses and burning my eyes. It was already about as uncomfortable as it could get then I tripped and went head first down into a thick stinging nettle patch. I must have been yelling crap or some other similiar descriptive word because as I lit face first to the ground the sensation was like no other I had ever experienced before!!! I got a full dose all around my lips and nose. I here today to tell ya it felt about the same way I imagine drinking a thistle, habanero, poison ivy smoothie!!!

Then to make matters worse I used my deet covered hands to try my best to remove my tongue and lips from my face. Yes, I did say tongue!!!!!

Let's just say there are truly some sensations that are best left unexperienced!!!!!!! Did I ever mention that winter is my favorite time to hunt??????

It's not so bad

after you get almost immune to it. Before I got my office job I was out surveying everyday. I was to the point I'd just go to work in my jean shorts and work boots with a sleeveless t shirt. I always had to keep a nice shirt and jeans in the truck to deal with the clients but it just seemed better to be cooler than to worry about itching. I fit's hot enough and you're working hard enough the sweat will rinse it all of anyways. Don't get me wrong if we were close to a creek or something there wasn't much better than getting down in there and taking a little whore bath. Those were the days and I have to agree with SamClark there's not much better than an ice cold beer after a long day out in the field.

cure

here in missouri we have it. if you look around the creek you will also find a plant that has clear stems and yellow flowers. take this stems and rub on the place ware you got ichweed got you and it will go away in few seconds. I have only found a few places where they did not grow together. I call it watercrest. but know that is not its real name.

have it bad in tn.we have snakes and sting weed and i beleive i would rather have the snakes.you walk into 7 ft tall sting weed your going to quit hunting and try to find some releif somewhere. catch the dogs later. thats true about the game wardens

Rocky River

Here in NC we had them bad on Rocky River they do hurt, but when I see it just go around it, I rather see that than the copperheads, I seen two Rattle snakes in one day last week one was 6ft 12rattlers, the other was 4ft but they will let you know when there around!

THIS WILL FIX NETTLE ITCHING

There's a cure for it that works in less than a minute. If you have burdock growing in your area take the fresh leaf stalks of it, roll them into your palms to get the juice worked up and then rub the smashed up stalks on wherever itches. Stops it right now and keeps it feeling nice. If you see the stalks you can cut some off and put them in a pocket in case you need it. They will hold their juice for a few hours.
Most times I see nettles and burdock growing in about the same areas so you don't have to go far to find it, at least here in central MN. If anyone is willing go test it out on a small patch of your ankle or wrist then tell everyone how it worked for you so you know I ain't making it up. Burdock is also nice on sunburn, mosquito bites and hives for relief. For them I would keep putting it on as needed but for nettles one time is all I ever need. It neutralizes the firey feeling.
I would use it on a dog that was suffering also but they would be apt to get into again if you keep hunting so wait until you are back to the truck. The only thing I can't tell anyone is if they could be allergic to burdock so if you try it test it out in a small way. For sure all of us bust out when we get into nettles.
Just so you all know, burdock looks like a version of rhurbarb, not exactly but close. The two are not related. In Asia they eat burdock root but here it's a weed. Anyone who hunts pheasants has probably run into it and spent time picking it out of your shoelaces, the burrs that is. Anyone who uses this needs to send me $0.50. LOL.... NAH, if it works thank the Lord for giving us plants for our needs. I learned this a few years back from an uncle in Cloverport KY. You could say he was born in the wrong century. No idea where he learned it but if he told you something worked then it sure did.

Sorry this is so long but this is the truth.

I think you are talking about Jewelweed. This works also. Good idea, forgot about that one. I always use burdock since it is so available.
